GG Are There Till the Litter End!!

Lambeth Report written by Yianny (he / him)

We will keep it brief this week but an excellent session was had running GG Lambeth's inaugural Bingo Litter Pick!

Before we get to the details it was lovely to welcome Peter for his first ever GG session, thanks for joining Peter it was great to have you with us!

So to tonight's session, the premise is simple - in pairs head out with gloves on and some black bags and collect as many items of litter as possible while trying to tick off items from the grid in the description of the task. There are two winning categories, first is quantity of litter picked by a pair and the second is the most boxes checked off the grid.

The group set off for a breezy 3km run round the nicer parts of Stockwell and then looped back to meet Aimee at base, collect the bags and gloves and then head off. For those who track these things tonight's category was favourite wild animal and we had some great ones like tapir, red panda, platypus and so on.

Our final pairs were Peter and Joao, Maya and Aimee and Clare and Hannah with AA Yianny adjudicating. Arguably the most interesting item found was a coconut shell by Maya/Aimee but our outright winners having brought back 3 bin liners full and ticking off a mammoth 21 boxes were Hannah and Clare!!

Well done everyone, not only did we make Lambeth a tidier place but it was a fun task to try out and will definitely be back again this summer - who dares to take on the Litter Pick Bingo matrix??!!

We turned up after clothing time but Anabel let us in !!

Lambeth Report written by Yianny (he / him)

Last night's run was full of controversy which made for a very engaging evening all round!!

First up Shannon great to have you join us on a group run, you will have hit 10 good deeds in no time at the rate you are going, welcome to the Lambeth Community!

Most people were joining directly at tonight's task however a small group of hardy individuals set off from Papa's and so to controversial conversation number 1 - what classifies as an ice lolly?? The consensus by the way is anything that can be found in a chest freezer but doesn't have a dairy element (although Solero and Milk pops both provide challenges to this....) AA was happy to overuled by the majority on this one.

(Other controversy involved rounding GG running distances to the nearest km so quite a day!)

The Lambeth crew reunited at the St Christopher's Hospice shop which was new task for Lambeth group (thanks to the legend that is Mark G - AA for Bromley and formerly from round these parts - for the assist.)

Anabel from St C's was there to show us around the massive space and our tasks which were to separate all the bags of donations into adult or childrens, clothes, linens, toys, books, bags and anything else. Some items were to go on hangers, others straight out onto the shop florr and yet others were to be recycled. Shannon was also in charge of dusting and disinfecting the stands around the shop.

The group was very impressed with all the great items being sorted and there are definitely going to be some visits back to buy some nice fashion items.

Overall there was simply too much to get through in the time we had but it was such a satisfying task that we will be making it a regular session each month so keep your eye out for the next one in June!

Big thank you to Anabel and to all the volunteers and see you at the next one!!

Cats and (Dande)Lions !!

Lambeth Report written by Yianny (he / him)

What a beautiful Spring evening to be heading out on our Lambetrh Group Run! It was gloriously bright and sunny but with a chill in the air - perfect running conditions - and many GGers were seeing each other in natural light for the first time!!

A warm welcome to James who was joining a Group Run for the first time, it was lovely to have you with us and another great addition to the Lambeth community! It was also lovely to have Task Force star Sarah back after a period away having been very unwell - we are glad to have you back. Lastly Aimee thanks for venturing out to meet us after your HIIT session, your glasses didn't impair your weed picking in the slightest!

Tonight's category controversy was around pizza toppings where the consensus was that burgers should not be found anywhere near them.

Tonight we were heading back to the Weir Link to help out Lizzie who had left us some hand tools and bags to clear away the weeds around the front of the centre. Despite the task name it was in fact the Dandelions we came to clear not the Daffodils, don't panic folks, no daffs were harmed during the making of this task!

It's a 2 mile each way run so a challenging but manageable distance for this group and luckily it's slightly uphill on the way out meaning a coast downhill heading back.

The team made a decent dent in the work with (Good) Jim looking on - see pics - split between those with hand tools digging up roots and the rest pulling up the weeds by hand. With the central section cleared and a good stretch of border also done it was tome to head home.

There was time for one last pizza based bit of trivia from Kaz who shared a New Zealand delicacy (?!) of pizza base with canned spaghetti on top..... The less said the better I think ;0)

On arrival back at Papa's a handsome ginger moggy decided to join in the session and came stealthily into the hall - thanks Michael for ushering him back out so we could lock up and head home!

Thanks everyone and see you at the next one !!
