Nettle stings, berry tasting & weeding were the name of the game last night. We headed up to one of our favourite places, Beckhill Community Garden at the back of Stainbeck United Reformed Church. It's a beautiful space & Lynn has worked wonders with the garden over the last 2 years.
We were weeding & watering & Lynn messaged afterwards saying what a difference we had made. Adam tried a gooseberry for the first time but I don't think he appreciated it! Alice & I both got nettled...now you know you've been to GoodGym if you're stung by something at the end of the evening!
Welcome to Esther on her first session & welcome back to Joanna who has had a long break. We hope to see you all both soon.

Tonight we had a lovely big group who all headed to Meanwood Valley Farm to help the team with a variety of jobs. The main job was to prepare a large area ready for tomato plants. Apparently they need soft ground, up to 50cm deep in order to thrive which was good to know, as I prepare to plant my own in the coming days. We used a large variety of tools including a wheel hoe which was very satisfying to use! This area is now ready for the plants to go in.
Our resident compost turners did their work as usual, Rachel & Helen always volunteer for this smelly job & Shannen joined them tonight, thanks ladies :)
As we always do, we got sent away with a variety of organic veggies including beetroot, radishes & rhubarb. Delicious!
Welcome to newcomers Billy & Katie, we hope to see you again soon.
Great work team!

We are a small charity with limited resources, so jobs like this often fall by the wayside. It helps us to continue to focus on our core work, but also with compost, it means we can have less inputs and save money

Tonight was our spring social & what great weather for it!
We ran straight to OWLS allotments where we spent around 40 minutes weeding & moving compost. We worked fast so that we could get to the park for our game of rounders. We got into two teams of 9/10 people & started the game. I don't think we 100% stuck to the rules but no one cares, we just have fun with it! We all had 3 bats each & I'm proud to say our team won with a score of 10 & a half to 8 & a half rounders. Well done gang!
We then headed to the pub for food & drinks. Poor Shannen got asked for ID so couldn't buy her alcohol free beer (yes really)...I'd take it is a compliment Shannen!
Welcome to Lydia on her first session, we hope to see you again soon. Thanks also to Erica for bringing everyone she knows to GoodGym:)
Thanks for a great evening all!

Tonight we said goodbye to our friend Christian who's moving back to Nigeria. Where will we be without our very own GoodGym Leeds superman, the fittest of us all, the hardest working, photo dodging, fruit eating machine?! Christian, I speak for all of us when I say we're going to miss you so much! We look forward to hearing about your new journey wearing your Yorkshire flat cap!!!
We ran to Left Bank tonight to wash many wedding chairs. The production line worked with everyone washing, Adam steaming, Katie & I drying & Helen organising it all! Then we got to finish off with a pint & present giving ceremony for Christian. He got his flat cap, Yorkshire mix sweets & tea bags as well as a card with pictures of all his best bits!
It was great to welcome so many newcomers too. Joao, Sourav, Jacob, Amara & Sarah thanks for coming & we hope to see you again soon.
