West Norwood Feast

A Community market

Feast is a community market in West Norwood run by volunteers on the first Sunday of the month from April to December. Our aim is to 'make West Norwood an even better place to live'. We have 60 plus market stalls with mostly local traders and a community focus with free children's activities, free community stalls and Tea and Talk for older members of the community.

8 GoodGymers have supported West Norwood Feast with 2 tasks.

Feast your eyes on this

Saturday 17th October 2020

Written by Charlotte Emms

The first day of London being put into tier 2 saw some brilliant GoodGym Lambeth runners meet at the Portico Gallery to help patch up some gazebos for the monthly West Norwood Feast.

They had some unlucky weather at the October Feast which put the gazebos to the waterproof test and many of them were in need of a bit of love. A small group of us had helped to mend about three gazebos the week before but this week, armed with more GoodGymmers, we were sure we'd power through loads more.

With Methuselah the cat watching and judging our every move, we set to work taping gazebo after gazebo and piling them up on the side ready to be transported to a new location for next month's use.

Over an hour of hustle and bustle saw us patch up over ten gazebo covers pretty thoroughly so we're feeling sure that even the wettest weather won't see those stalls getting soaked at the November Feast!

Nothing's fine, I'm torn. I'm all out of tape

Saturday 10th October 2020

Three of us swung by the Portico Gallery in West Norwood on Saturday morning to help repair some gazebos from the West Norwood Feast.

After meeting at the front, we had to use our history knowledge to open the gate at the back since the combination key for the lock was only provided to us in a cryptic clue involving history knowledge...

Zoe and I started sorting through some gazebos to find ones that needed repairing while Chris got to work with another local volunteer to start patching up some of the holes on a gazebo we'd already fetched out of storage.

An hour and a half in and we'd patched up three gazebos which were ready to be used again for the Feast with the added bonus that if it rains, they'll protect the stalls underneath them!
