University parks parkrun Event #57 was another big one!
👋 513 runners and walkers complete the course. 147 of you were first timers to University Parks and 33 were first ever parkrun! Welcome all of you, Lots of you got BPs too 🌳Jess Buttigieg completed her 52nd different parkrun in a row today, making a year of parkrun tourism! Jess started her parkrun journey at the age of 18 in Australia and has clocked up a total of 242 parkruns! Follow her on instagram @parkrunnerjess 🥕Hello also to our vegan runner friends, who regularly run parkruns but today had a meet up at University Parks we hope you enjoyed it here! Also a shout out to Magdalen college school who brought a big group of kids, teenagers and staff to run, well done 👋 Welcome Ellie, who started her volunteer role with Mind at Parkrun today. She’ll be there to welcome service users who’ve been referred by Mind and to help signpost park runners to Mind services and support in Oxfordshire! Do go and say hi to her next time. If you would like to volunteer next week or in the future we always need more people, and many roles like bar code scanning can be done if you are a speedy runner as well as running in the event!
🌳Double Funnel – Thank you to everyone who is getting used to our double funnel, now we regularly have so many runners this is our normal, so if you are lucky enough to get a letter A,B,C, etc please hold it with pride as you start a new row of people!
🦆Thanks to everyone who helped with funnel duckers! These are people who enter the funnel and duck out (no quacking idea why?! sometimes to collect something like a coat, and sometimes because they don’t understand the format, there is plenty of time after you exit the funnel).. its really important once you enter the funnel to stay in it and get a token at the other end otherwise the times go wrong (and not just yours!), so if you don’t want to finish then please don’t enter the funnel, if you do want to complete the run make sure you follow it through! Thank you!
🏃🏾‍♀️Speedy runners – A reminder that we do not have priority over other park users, so although we love your speed, PLEASE watch out you do not knock anyone when overtaking, or indeed people who are in the park anyway. We understand on the second lap you will want to overtake slower walkers and runners but please do this with as much care and space as you can.
🌳Tokens – we had a fair few of you take tokens home this week 😭 please don’t do that! They live in the bucket at the end. If you have taken one by mistake please do bring it back next week. I you haven’t got a bar code but take a token don’t worry just put it in the bucket at the end Hope you all have a great weekend and see you again soon Report written by Run Director Trev 🌳 #loveparkrun

📊 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗻𝗮𝗽𝘀! 🎞️ With a full report from event 12 in the pipeline, we thought we'd share with you some highlights from last Saturday's parkrun 🌳 including lots of milestones and several shout-outs to our awesome volunteers 😊 📸 We've also got another fantastic album for you! Rose joined us again to take these beautiful photos of you all enjoying yourselves in the sunshine 🌞 Rose has an amazing eye for a good shot and we're so grateful to Rose for volunteering her skills 😊

👋 Amongst the 𝟯𝟲𝟳 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀 who joined us, 𝟭𝟭𝟭 were new to University Parks parkrun and 𝟯𝟬 completed their 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 ever parkrun! This included Tail Walker Joe, who volunteered to hand out finish tokens at event 10 before trying out our course on Saturday 🧡 Welcome to the parkrun family everyone! 🔔 A big well done to the following on reaching new 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀: 1️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ Emma and Matt 👏 5️⃣0️⃣ Oliver 👏 2️⃣5️⃣ Elaine, Christopher and Justin 👏 🦺 𝟮𝟲 wonderful 𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀 helped make event 12 happen... 👌 Trev donned the Run Director’s vest for the second time and dealt magnificently with some curve balls thrown at him mid-event ⚾ Thank you so much for taking everything in your stride with such good humour as always Trev 🤗 🤹‍♀️ David proved himself a master juggler of tasks too at an unusually busy marshal point 4 🔂 David also dished out motivational stats to parkrunners on their way round 😍 Did you know that, on your second lap, you have completed 72% of the course and have just 1.4km left to go when you pass Marshal 4? We’re thinking of adding these numbers to our Marshal lanyards 😁 David – you’re an absolute legend and we’re very lucky to have you at University Parks! 🔔 Core team member Tilly flew round the course to set a new parkrun PB before throwing on a hi-vis and managing the flow of finishers through the funnel 📣 Great work Tilly! 🙌 Anthony completed his 250th parkrun at event 11 and volunteered to scan barcodes the following week (along with his mini assistant) to celebrate 🎉 Needless to say, Anthony’s 250 milestone t-shirt was much admired by all 👕 Thank you so much for joining our hi-vis team Anthony, and congratulations on a fantastic achievement 👏 📲 Henry is back in town for Trinity Term (after an Easter break parkrunning at Sandhurst Memorial parkrun) and joined us in hi-vis to scan barcodes after his run 🏃‍♂️ It’s lovely to have you back Henry! 🚴 Nick was visiting us from his home parkrun of Banbury, where he is a Run Director. Nick took on the not-insubstantial task of Lead Biking (his debut in this role) before handing our finish tokens at the funnel with University Parks regular Kersti 🎫 Thanks for joining us David – we hope you enjoyed your visit! 🌟 Ben came to the rescue yet again this week when we needed to fill a Marshal slot at the last minute 🦸‍♂️ Calm and collected as ever, Ben handed back his pink tokens bucket and scooted off down Oak Walk to marshal point 8 🦺 Thank you so much for everything you do Ben! 🔍 Oof, we lost a lot of tokens this week 😥 𝗧𝗼𝗸𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝟰𝟮, 𝟵𝟯, 𝟵𝟰 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝟭𝟳𝟵 didn't make it back to our pink buckets after the event. All of these finishers were Unknowns in our results. If anyone knows where any of the tokens might have ended up, please do get in touch! #loveparkrun

🌳 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗧𝗿𝗲𝘃 👏👏👏

What a morning! A frosty start turned into brilliant sunshine just in time for event 8 today 🌞 We were lucky enough to be joined by lots of GoodGym volunteers this week 🏋️‍♂️ 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂 for your support Goodgym Oxford!

A particularly big thank you and 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗲 to today's Run Director Trev, who organised the GoodGym takeover 👏 Trev is a Run Director at our friends Florence Park junior parkrun 🌿 If you haven't discovered junior parkrun yet, get yourself (and your little people if you have any) along at 9am on a Sunday – it's amazing 💫 Today was Trev's first time run directing at a 5k event 🌳 He came along with his usual energy and enthusiasm and did an absolutely fantastic job 🤩 We love you Trev!

🏆 A new 𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱 was set this morning! Kate Williamson (VW 75-79) hit a new University Parks PB of 25:55 today and in doing so beat her own previous age grade record and raised the bar to 95.24% 👏 Very many congratulations Kate - you're truly inspiring!

🦺 𝟯𝟮 wonderful 𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀 helped make event 8 happen 🌳 Amongst them... 👋 Milton Keynes parkrunner Martyn was visiting Oxford today and opted for some parkrun voluntourism 🧡 Thanks so much for your help Martyn, and congratulations in advance for your 250th parkrun in a few weeks' time! 👩‍👩‍👧 Joy, Rose and Katie were back for another family volunteering stint, marshalling and taking photos 📷 (Album to follow!) Katie had produced yet another bespoke motivational sign to cheer you all round on the course 🎨 Thanks team - it's a real treat to have you 😊

⏱ University Parks regular Helen tried her hand at timekeeping for the first time this morning and absolutely nailed it with a faultless set of results despite some challenging finish funnel action 👏 You're a superstar Helen!
