Off the rails!

Off the rails!

Three Goodgymers from Waltham Forest went to Traid charity shop to help them with a store refurb. Ramon, Ruby and Charlotte ran varying distances (Ramon and Ruby definitely ran furthest) and met at Traid on the High Street to help the team do a big spring clean and rotate their stock for the new season. They helped take the clothes from the rails to be packed in huge cardboard boxes, so the store could be cleaned, displays and rails could be moved around, and new stock could be put out. They also helped move some big boxes of shoes (Ramon found a pair he liked!) The trio made short work of the task and by 7pm had put on their running shoes (not the ones from the charity shop) and headed off into the night.

Papa's got a brand new bag!

Wednesday 20th March

Another GoodGym favourite session at TRAID Walthamstow!

Upon arrival, we were instructed to get to work packing hangers away into large cardboard boxes and stacking them on packing crates to be shipped off.

After making light work of the first task, we set about loading piles of clothing into even bigger boxes to be sealed, lablleled and sent off. While not the easiest job for anyone unable to see over 5'7, Ercole took the lead on filling the taller boxes. While the boxes continued to pile up, Ramon shared his legendary knowledge on all things stretching, physio and discipline (seriously, if you're not up for the missions, at least come from the free PT sessions!)

Our superhero Helen arrived just in time for everyone's favourite part of TRAID missions: dressing up. While rifling through the smaller boxes to sort the clothing from the accessories, the team came across a few pieces that we just had to try on (hilarious photos to follow).

After a good fashion show and even better organising, we were done, dusted (literally) and ready to head home. TRAID sessions are always a group favourite and there are a few throughout the year so if this sounds like fun to you, keep an eye on the website!

We don’t have any hang ups…

Wednesday 23rd March 2022

Written by Redbridge runner

Three goodgym volunteers made their way to the TRAID charity store in Walthamstow to help them clear out all the old stock.

We were quickly tasked with removing clothes from hangers and filling up boxes with clothes.

Ramon found it difficult to resist modelling a lovely tutu outfit!

Traid is a great charity that make sure clothes do not go to waste and educating people on a more sustainable clothing industry.

Soon enough the rails were empty and it was time to go - with @Becca off to try out the pub quiz at The Duke (might be a good future social option!!) and Ramon for a five mile walk.

We look forward to returning again in a few months!!

Traid and Tested

Wednesday 26th January 2022

Another great evening packing up clothes at Traid and a short but intense little fitness session Once again there was a lot to do but we jumped at it with gusto!

Drop it like it's hot There was a lot of acitivity so we spent a full hour taking off the clothes off the racks, sorting out shoes and packing away clothes such as skirts, tops and trousers. Talking of trousers...We are now very experienced with 'dropping our trousers' but considering this was only the second good deed for Sophia, she really excelled at it;):

Quick burst of energy After we finished with the task Rosie, Sophia and Natasha made their way home by running and walking - great active travel! In the meantime Rachel, Rosalind, Rebecca, Ramon (the Four RRRR:)) and Julia easily jogged to the Town Square for some pre-dinner fitness activities: - We did two sets of interval sprints - 5 minutes each. Doesn't sound like a lot but folks were feeling the burn! - We did some arm strength exercises in between the sprinting - those triceps are going to say hello tomorrow;) - We finished with a nice stretch down!

GGWF Traid Packers

Monday 20th September 2021

Written by Waltham Forest runner

Once again GGWF found ourselves at the Traid store in Walthamstow looking to help packing away their end of summer clothing. Traid are a charity that helps to tackle the negative environmental effect of making, consuming and disposing of cloths, and try to promote sustainable fashion. After being greeted, briefed and shown the behind store areas for safe storage of personal items, kitchen and wc facilities...... we set about the task in hand. In no time at all we had managed to fill 2 1/2 large boxes with mixed clothing , not to mention the separation of the two types of hangers into boxes also. We had a few laughs along the way with my fashion sense ( but with the right accessories you can make magic happen ) and a certain young lady with terrible aim, but that's for another time ;-) Time soon came calling and we finished of our last rail of clothes before calling it a day. We had managed to accomplish a good amount in the time given which was very much appreciated and we shared a few laughs along the way... Until the next time, thanks everyone.... Ramon
