Cobble Fettlin'

Monday 18th March

Written by Tom Mutton

We had something a bit different this week. It was a tough one!

The now annual Park Hill Uprise Urban Hill Climb organised by Adam Simmonite of Sheffield Urban Cyclocross.

More details on the event and entry can be found here.

The main aim of the eve was to try and gain back as much of the cobbles from nature as possible. This is a fantastic area, but it's not shown so much love and the once wide cobblestone paths get grown over by weeds and moss, making it less accessible to people and particularly for this event slippery and not as safe as it should be.

ENTER GOOD GYM!

Armed with sharp spades, brushes and snow plows, kindly borrowed from SUSTRANS SIMON, we got straight to work after meeting Adam on site who had already put over an hours shift in!

By the end of our time the path was looking much safer and wider, ready for the main event this coming Saturday! If you can make it down to enter or even just to support on the sidelines it will be sure to be a great event!

Following the efforts some of us headed to The Rutland Arms for refreshments and a first experience of the ledgendary 'Rutty Butty' - All the carbs!

Where the streets have no name

Monday 20th March 2023

Written by Tom Mutton

On a damp, drizzly dark eve a FANTASTIC FOUR ventured to the other side of the track to meet with SUSTRANS SIMON at Park Hill to grab tools and then meet up with Adam Simmonite of Sheffield Urban Cyclocross to help clean the cobbles ready for the charity bike race happening this weekend!

Spades and brushes were tonights tools of the trade. We took a side each and got straight to scraping the overgrown weeds and moss that had encrouched onto the cobbles over time.

It was a pretty intense workout for the arms and back which is not the usual target during a GG sesh, so nice to have the variety.

By the time we were done the path was looking loads clearer and much more race ready for the weekend.

Post run we had a stair session, follow by some stretching and a mini tour of Park Hill flats before heading to our homes.

Until next time, happy running :)
