In the bag!

Saturday 13th May 2023

Written by Anit (He/Him)

Great and satisfying feeling, powering through putting together around 130 food parcels to be handed to those needing them. Had AJ for company though we were at different packaging stations. Happy to hear GG mentioned and acknowledged during the debrief at the end!

Final good deed of 2022 in the (Food) Bank!

Saturday 31st December 2022

Written by Sarah Whitehouse

Five frolicking Goodgymmers made it to the Rukhsana Khan Foundation this morning to work off some of the festive excesses by organising and packing groceries for 115 households in our local community. As always, there was much lifting and carrying, fetching and packing, along with some lovely chat, lots of smiles and just the right amount of merriment to keep spirits up while everyone worked hard. RKF continues to do a phenomenal job ensuring that people in our community who need a bit of help don’t go without. A morning with the incredible team there always does wonders for mind, body and soul, and makes us count our blessings, not only for everything we have, but also for the fantastic people we’re surrounded by, here in Walthstamstow. An excellent task, of course, and, as ever, quite the workout! Very well done to all who came to help, drawing this year – dominated by headlines recounting division, disparity and disconnection – to a close in a spirit of determination, togetherness and community, proving (if proof were needed) that we are, of course, stronger and better together. What could be more perfect? May 2023 bring you all health, happiness, love and laughter!

Dashing through the Dough

Friday 24th December 2021

Written by Redbridge runner

This is a great task and definitely replaces the need to go to the gym - I arrived at 9am and was put straight to work unloading vans with crates of food donations! Then I was helping with doubling up very flimsy bags before filling them up with food items.

Nadi and Hristo arrived later and were swiftly put to the tasks that they quickly got done - this included preparing food packages, carrying bags out for delivery, clearing up boxes and so on.

We got everything done by 11.30am and were on our way to get on with Xmas eve!

Watch out for more sessions at this great foodbank - so many families and individuals will have a meal over holidays because of the work thus foodbank does!

They were (Food) Banking on us!

Saturday 4th December 2021

Written by Waltham Forest runner

What a great start to our weekends. 6 Goodgymers joined me at the Rukhsana Khan Foundation Foodbank this Saturday morning.

We had a visitor from Islington, Jenny who joined the packing team in the community centre, bagging up 80 carriers of cans. Helen made it after a late work shift, finishing in the early hours, and got to work transporting around 200 packed bags from the packing area to the car park for the delivery drivers to collect. Tony and Rebecca headed off in to the local area and dropped flyers in 7 streets around E17. And finally a big welcome to Sophia who carried out her first GoodGym activity today, she joined Ruby at Lloyd Park Market to spread the word to hundreds of passers by about the RKF Foodbank stall where instead of buying food visitors could donate to the Foodbank's Festive Food Fund ensuring they can deliver food hampers to those households in need in the week before the Xmas break. Oh and I sorted out so many cans of donated beans & soup in to crates that I'll be dreaming off them all week!

The Foodbank enjoyed getting to know our Goodgymers and vice verser I think everyone was eager to learn about how the RKF supports the community.

This task will run for the next two saturdays and we also will be setting up another task for the 24th Dec (more details to follow on that) so please sign up if you are keen!

Flyering rain or shine

Saturday 30th January 2021

Written by Ruby Daly

The task was to post flyers through letter boxes in support of local food bank. Happily, of 250 letter boxes, most were at waist level and only about half a dozen were at the foot of the door! A new found respect for postal workers☺️
