Painting Whiter shade of Pale.

Monday 19th February

Written by Annie Anthony Mays

8 Goodgymmers paint the interior of The Regather space upstairs. Fun, laughter and various quotes were shared amongst us all. Lots of high walls were unreachable even with ladders and chairs. I did think of climbing up to paint but too risky. So we have to leave the high unpainted walls for another day to abseil if permitted. Paint looked yellow against the cream walls but when dried it looks white. We were all curious with the various shades of White but we did it successfully. Well done team!

Puddle dodging & Paint spreading!

Monday 30th October 2023

Written by Tom Mutton

Despite the weather being a complete washout we still had some strong GG stalwarts brave the wet weather to run to Regather and meet with Rachel & Gareth to help get their events space back on track!

On arrival everything was beautifully organized and well laid out ready for us, which meant we could really crack on with the task after a quick brief from Rachel.

We had long and short rollers and brushes at hand to help give the old community event space a new lick of paint and get it ready for welcoming people back to this fantastic community venue for film and music nights to comedy, to maybe even a hummus party hosted by Jono!

After what seemed like no time at all we had gotten around the entire room, even getting on to glossing the top of the stairs!

Sergiu gave us a quick tour of the other spaces at Regather for those who hadn't seen them before and we were generously offered a bottle of fresh organic apple juice from Regathers latest harvest, hot of the press and a prickly pear for those that dare!

It was great to be back with our old friends at Regather and we look forward to coming back again and seeing the events space in full swing again post pandemic!

Until next time, happy running! :)

Return to Regather - Prepping for Mushrooms!

Monday 31st January 2022

Written by Tom Mutton

Not all hero's wear capes, but last nights did!

It was SENSATIONAL STEVE'S 500th good deed last night! Massive respect! Steve has been coming to GG since nearly the very start and has been consistently contributing in numerous ways to the growth of the group and it's community. Steve has been visiting his coach for a number of years and continues to support them today. Thank you for all of you help and contribution Steve!

At the other end of the GG time line we had Robert joining us for his first run. Please click through on Robert's name above to support him and give him some cheers! Hope to see you again soon Robert and thanks to Lan for introducing him to the group.

This week saw the return to Regather, an old friend of GG SHF where a couple of our runners, Serge and Becky work. The task was a great one where we were helping Gareth, Becky and Serge to empty their full to the brim basement of various items that had been used in the past for their events around the city which over the last couple of years have had to cease. In true adapt and overcome fashion the Regather crew have come up with a new use for the space and plan to grow mushrooms in the basement that will go into their fantastic fruit and veg boxes.

After forming a human chain and emptying the contents to another storage space down the road, we aid our farewells and headed for home but not without some leg killers on the way. This week we paired up and used a well lit underpass for some leggy action. One person wall sat, whilst the other sprinted up a ramp and down some stairs and tagged their partner to swap. We did three round and then headed closer to home.

When closer to The Showroom we used some concrete steps for another quick leg killer that involved 4 steps so we did 4 squat jumps on each followed by a step up or a box jump up to the next level. Killer!

The photos attached tell some great stories of last night but also this month with a great effort and result in the January challenge. Thanks to all who have contributed and continue to do so.

Until next time, happy running! :)

GG bottled it

Monday 18th November 2019

Written by Tom Mutton

We welcomed no less than 6 new GG runners to the group tonight.

Please welcome, cheers and support;

(Alex) Tai Cai Rachel Lu Daniel

Give em a cheer support them by clicking their name above.

This week we were back off to our old friends REGATHER to help GORGEOUS GARETH with their community apple project which harvests apples from peoples gardens that would otherwise go to waste and goes to REGATHER where they are used to make delicious cider and apple juice. The profits go back into the project or similar projects that help to reduce food waste and make food production more locally sourced and sustainable.

We split into three teams, two teams we labeling inside, some apple juice, some cider. Team three did a litter pick outside the building to keep it looking spic and span.

Once we had completed the labeling we headed around the corner for some circular fitness action which this week included:

  • Lunges
  • Step Up's
  • Box Jumps
  • Tri Dips
  • Group squat jumps
  • Calf raises
  • Lot's of circular sprints

On route back we added some extra loops and stairs to keep everyone together before coming to a close with stretched and upcoming news.

A HUGE congrats to Rachel for her 100th run and big thanks to Dianna for making the fantastic cape!

Until next time, happy running :)

How'd you like them apples?

Monday 21st October 2019

Written by Tom Mutton

On a dark eve, with streets filled with later to be disappointed Arsenal football fans, we set off from our base of the Showroom Cinema to the REGATHER Co-operative to meet old friend GORGEOUS GARETH.

Gareth welcomed us with a big smile and open arms and took us through the tasks for the eve which would help the local co-operative out. This week it included:

  • Apple Sorting
  • Lifting & Shifting
  • Litter Picking
  • Spring/Autumn cleaning

We got straight onto the tasks and also enjoyed a bit of Regather history whilst on task around how an 18th century working streetlight came to be homed in this snug little community venue.

Conversations were also had re most interesting pieces of rubbish found litter picking which this week included a wet towel in a bag, a suitcase, some pyjamas and a kitchen knife which was passed onto Gareth to pass onto the police. Discussions in other areas of the building entailed fave apples and horror films, very diverse.

On the way back to base we used our new and very handy portable lights to light up an area for some FUN FITNESS which this week included;

  • Tri Dips
  • Press Ups
  • Squat Jumps

We did ten reps of each followed by a sprint around the circular fence to make a quick but effective interval session!

On return home we heard about all the latest upcoming events and headed into the now much quieter Showroom for after run drinks.

Until next time, happy running!

:)

Happy Birthday to us! #GG10

Monday 16th September 2019

Written by Tom Mutton

Well well well, we have turned 10 #GG10!

We had a swanky new GG flag from GGHQ to commemorate the birthday so we put it to good use in our group photo before leaving our home of the Showroom tonight.

We welcomed new runner Fe Wells to tonights run and she got a huge round of applause for making it to her first group run, hopefully the first of many! Give her a cheer and support Fe by clicking on her name above!

This week we were off to help out at Lynwood Gardens, the 'pocket forest' of Sheffield which hosts a woodland Kindergarten amongst other things!

This weeks task involved;

  • Sything
  • Lopping
  • Chip spreading
  • Path clearing
  • Nettle cutting
  • Tree weaving!

After a good session the place was looking so much better for a bit of GG love!

On route back we got in some FANTASTIC FITNESS, the order of the eve included:

  • Stair squats
  • Wall sits
  • One legged chair squats
  • Loop backs

Once we were back at base and stretched off we heard from the big red man himself Ivo about where GG is up to after 10 years and our lovely Sheffield runners read some words of what GG meant to people which was a great way to finish the eve.

Until next time, happy running :)
