The Fanstastic Four and the Super Six

Saturday 28th May 2022

Written by Karolina

On a sunny Saturday morning super six good gymmers showed up bang on time to beautify four street planters.

After a short round of introductions to Hattie and Tina they wasted no time on pre task chit-chatting and moved onto clearing two planters on Splott Road. Often interrupted by curious Splott residents, they cracked on with mindful weeding before sowing new seeds of hope!

After 30 mins of proper gardening work, four of the super six run and two walked to the end of Moorland Road to do the same. To their surprise, they found planters in a pretty good shape bursting with wild flowers. They decided to sprinkle more seeds before taking a few more pictures and heading back to the base.

Just before they bid farewell, plans were made for running sessions, races and sunrise swims in Penarth.

Fluffing up the flower beds

Saturday 4th December 2021

Written by Karolina

On a freezing and a very windy Saturday afternoon, four brave good gymmers arrived dead on time eager to beautify the streets of Splott.

They started with planting some bulbs... Yes, more bulbs. Shauny, who has done bulbing on industrial scale with the Friends of the Victoria Square, knew exactly what to do. Armed with his new toy, he moved swiftly from one planter to another only to find out that the Sean and Hayley had a handful of bulbs between them. But his efforts didn't go to waste.

Next, they switched the location to two large communal planters on Splott Road, just outside of Oasis. One of the planters was seriously overgrown with weeds and yet full of bulbs (yes, bulbs, again! ) underneath. So, to avoid disturbing the little beauties, gently they began fluffing the soil and pulling weeds. While working away Peter from Keep Splott Tidy joined us for a chat and to thank us for looking after the planters. He also gave us two clumps of lavender which we immediately planted.

With two buckets full of weeds and gardening tools (little forkies and little shovies) they moved on to a somewhat better looking planter. This one definitely needed less weeding and more fluffing.

Pleased with themselves and the work they have done, they headed back to oasis to put tools and gloves away. They finished with a cute team photo and said their farewells to each other and the bulbing season.

They cannot wait for spring to arrive to see the results of bulbing and fluffing of the flower beds around Cardiff.
