Wa-ter Wade to spend Tuesday Morning

Tuesday 8th October 2019

Written by Slough runner

Three runners return back to Crown Meadow to meet Hanna and her team for our second round of Trim-Lift-Cut-Pick-Lay-Tug-Hacked-Splash-chop chop chop. Sara was on it with her waders and straight back in to the Brook laying branches along the side of the stream, she WOOD of loved to stay longer I’m sure. Manjit really got STUCK into her role or should I say it stuck in her knee haha. We had the wellie beautiful job of trimming branches for our group yet trying to not get spiked with the spikes. Hunters VS Crocs!! Hunters were by far better as proven and modelled by our very own Run Leader.

Tree's a crowd...

Saturday 5th October 2019

Written by Ealing runner

Today six of us got up early Saturday to help out Groundworks at Crown Meadow. We got our waders on, as told and began action on the Horton Brook.

Our job was to start clearing the brook to allow water to flow again, chop away branches and overgrowth to let more light in and encourage new growth and wildlife.

Sara, Darren, Jen and I hopped in the brook, as the waders were way too big for Pam and Kam, we would have been wading to find them in those get ups.

Nobody saw Darren and Sara coming with those tree surgeon skills. They hacked, chopped and lifted those logs. All in prep for spartan race tomorrow, getting those arms moving.

Pam and Kam were our bank team, they chopped everything in sight and helped us waders with our clippings.

Jen would not let go of those roots... She was in a tug of war for sure.

We branched out, spreading along the brook clearing as we went, making sure one foot infront of the other... so not to make a splash. Especially when you've got size 10 wellies on and you are about three sizes smaller....

We were going with the flow...

Emily was very happy with the phone pocket in the waders... Allowed for all the lovely photos on this report!

Thanks so much to Hannah and the Groundworks team. And for the lovely tea break and biscuits. We had to drag Darren away from those branches, he was on a roll.

If you want to help out they will be meeting Tuesday morning at the Crown Meadow in Colnbrook. Check out the good gym missions page for more info and to sign up

Otherwise, see you Monday for our normal group run, 6.30pm @ salt hill activity centre.
