Friends of Norris Green Park - Walled Garden Restoration

Uncovering the hidden treasures with the Victorian walled garden area
We are restoring the historical features within the park - once the site of the long gone Norris Green mansion. This summer we are opening a heritage centre and volunteer-led cafe, the walled garden will be used to grow fruit & veg and get the community involved in health eating & horticulture - we have made a good start but we need more hands on deck to clear the area .....our weekly volunteer crew are all over 65 so having some young people to help would be absolutely awesome! You can see more about our work here https://friendsofnorrisgreenpark.wordpress.com

6 GoodGymers have supported Friends of Norris Green Park - Walled Garden Restoration with 2 tasks.

Living on the edge!

Saturday 17th October 2020

Written by Jo G

A return trip to Norris Green Park in North Liverpool saw Matthew, Pauline and Jo tackle the sunken garden to prepare it for its winter planting. Greeted by Helen and Colin of the Friends group, we were soon busy with edging tools, spades, shears, brooms and good-old-fashioned weeding on hands and knees, to tidy the path edges which were very overgrown with grass and weeds. Spot the difference with the before-and-after photos! As we head into winter with continued restrictions on social activities,, our parks and open spaces will be a lifeline for people to spend their leisure time and meet friends and family safely. We're glad to have helped to make this lovely local park a bit nicer for people to enjoy.

We Were Just (Norris) Green (Park) With Envy

Saturday 8th August 2020

What a lovely task to get involved in. Life never runs smoothly with one person having to pull out at the last minute and two others struggling to find the venue, so a massive thanks to Yan and Tony for persevering and getting there. It just shows the amazing spirit of Good Gymers. Jo, Ben and Matthew arrived and were welcomed with a lovely cup of tea.

They have got quite a operation going at Friend's of Norris Green Park, with a storage container and gazebo's and a generator operated tea urn and lots of cake. What's not to like? The work that they are doing in this park is enormous and so it is a gradual process and the locals are really starting to benefit from all their hard work.

We were tasked with clearing weeds out of seven circular flower beds. As we started the sun came out and the humidity went right up so it was hot and sweaty work but we are up for the task and with Tony and Yan turning up, it really helped boost the morale. We were treated to ice creams, and water and more tea and cake. Determined to get all the beds weeded we stayed a little longer than normal but it was so worthwhile as the finished photos will hopefully show.

I hope that we get to go back again and again to help this really worthy cause and to make yet another of our Liverpool parks start to look special. They have amazing plans for the park so watch this space. Amazing effort everyone!
