The tree is lit!

Thursday 9th December 2021

Written by Sarah Lee

After helping out on Saturday getting the Christmas trees ready for the festival there were a few finishing touches needed doing for the GoodGym Christmas Tree. We made sure the lights were in working order and on the best setting and added the final decorations to the tree. We also gave a helping hand to our neighbouring tree, sponsored by our close friends at Bexley Mencap!

Pining for an Xmas task - you’d better beleaf it

Saturday 4th December 2021

Written by Sarah Lee

After parkrun participation at Bexley, Dartford Heath and Greenwich, runners plus other GoodGym members arrived at Christ Church Erith to help setup approximately 40 Xmas trees for the Erith Christmas Tree Festival. 🎄 As a result of COVID, this wasn’t held last year so it was our first visit back since 2019. This year the task was made easier as the trees arrived already in bases so we were required to move them to specific locations in the church. Some of the task force used the time saved to select and partly decorate the GoodGym tree. Thanks to Peter, Nick, the Lees and the Wrens for donations towards the sponsored tree 🎄 Mince pies consumed, a number of us were still hungry enough to make our way for a Xmas brunch at the Old Library.

A 𝘮𝘢𝘴𝘴-ive effort and a double celebration

Saturday 6th November 2021

Written by Bexley runner

When Christ Church in Erith wanted help tidying their grounds in preparation for their Remembrance Sunday service the next weekend, who did they call? GoodGym Bexley!

The focus was on the war memorial where the congregation and members of the public will gather.

Working alongside some of the church parishioners, Gemma and Martin tackled the flower bed surrounding the war memorial while Graham set about digging a patch in the grass ready for a new shrub to be planted. Susan and Sarah trimmed shrubs along the footpath, and Liam and Nick dug out some old roots then joined Johnny on a litter-picking forage around the grounds.

This task marked Graham's 50th good deed, and Sarah's 200th. In true GoodGym tradition there were home-baked muffins 🧁 and a certain brand of Swiss round chocolates to celebrate🍬.
