Splashed It! Now We're Totally Shuttered

Liverpool Report written by Char Binns

Our nifty 19 runners enjoyed blue skies and a sticky (almost) 6km run to help out Kensington Community Learning Centre.

On a scorcher of a day, the team made excellent time, even with a slight hill to tackle, on our way to Kensington. We'd visited KCLC twice during the winter but have never seen this fantastic adult learning centre in day light. Making the most of the nice weather, Centre Manager Suzanne put most of the team to work on outdoors tasks. On the busy main road, the centre's shutters were rather dirty and needed some suds and scrubs from our team. While the two alcoves needed a fresh lick of paint.

Back inside the centre Christine and Jake tackled some flaky paint with scrapper, whilst also tackling a light sensor which kept leaving them in the dark! Tim and Chris played engineers/flat pack specialist for the evening by fixing some old chairs.

Shout out to Claire who hit her 10th Good Deed tonight and to Effie freshly back from holiday, who hit 20 Good Deeds. Whoop whoop!

While we do promise that GoodGym is about getting fit while doing good, sometimes the tasks show their appreciation in the form of food. And KCLC has quickly become notorious amongst my team for thanking runners with sausage rolls (and this time, doughnuts too!). So with baked goods still in hand, we began the run home. Somehow the munchies did the trick and we made it back to base at a great pace.

Fantastic work one and all!

Next week we're back at the Greenhouse Project which is a gentle from base. So sign-up and bring your friends too!

Mini Busman's Holiday

Liverpool Report written by Char Binns

A mighty 24 runners beat the drizzle AND a hills based fitness session, in their quest to help out a community transport service.

It was our first time at South Central Community Transport based in Toxteth, a great organisation that provides transport to members of the community at times of need as well as putting on an array of activities for elderly people in the area.

The run there was all downhill and even the threat of an impending thunderstorm didn't bother our brave team. We arrived in record time and after a quick intro from Lynn, we jumped straight in. The task was to valet 6 minibuses inside and out. Lynn didn't imagine we'd have time to do all of them (me neither!) but this big team worked relentlessly and finished with plenty of time to spare for a hills-based fitness session - their favourite!

It was newbies galore this week and we were lucky to have the company of Ali, Carolyn, Kathrine and Keira - you were all brilliant and we'd love to run with you again soon.

It was also lovely to welcome back some familiar faces who we lost to injury weeks or even months ago. Great to see you back and fighting fit Adam and Christina!

The biggest shout out goes to Mat who entered the 100 club this week. Amazing work fella!

With the vast majority of the work done, we left George and Katie happily power blasting the soap off the remaining minibuses while the rest of the team headed to some of my favourite hills. After completing five minutes of drills to work on our form, we headed to everyone's beloved Strava segment, 'Upper Parly - Hope Street Hill Sprint'. And by heck, the team hit it hard!

Don't forget you can share your Strava success and connect with the GG crew all week round by joining our Strava Group here.

I was super proud of everyone tonight, both at the task and during the fitness session - you smashed it!

I'll be doing it all again next week, will you?

P.S. Kudos to Katie for the title pun :)

All White, All White, Everything's Going To Be All White!

Liverpool Report written by Char Binns

Our super 16 ran over 5km to finish painting the huge wall at Everton Park

Just before we stepped outside for our Group Run this week, a big yellow orb appeared in the sky. What is that thing? some asked with amazement. Those with better memories responded uncertainly, I think its the sun! So with the heat of a long lost sunshine warming our way, we ran the steady 2.3km to Everton Park.

A few weeks back, we'd made a super start painting over an old mural at Everton Park and this week we planned to finish the job. I wasn't sure this chatty group were going to get the whole thing done in time, but as usual, they exceeded my expectations, finishing in time for a good fitness session which included two of our favourite things: steps AND hills. Oh how I spoil you!

Shout out to Katie for being our trusty back-marker and to Sophie for painting the harder to reach areas with her magic roller poll!

At the end of the fitness session were treated to views right across the city and to Wirral beyond, as the Mersey sparkled in the sunshine (long may it last). The run back to base was all down hill and the group set an excellent pace. A huge well done to everybody for top-class good-deeding and running tonight.

Next week we return to the Bombed Out Church, so bring your friends.
