6 runners met on Hope Street and ran just over 1km to offer our services to a community garden in need.

When we arrived at Mulgrave Street Community Garden we were met by 5 other GoodGymmers (including two first timers Aditya and Eleanor - lovely to have you on board!)

Our mission tonight was to help Mulgrave Street Action Group with some planting after some of their plants were stolen! The garden was set up by (then 14 year old) Khan and his Mum. It had previously been a bit of a dumping ground but is now a beautiful space for the community to share.

To begin with we split into two teams - one weeding and one moving hundreds of plants from Khan's back garden. Then the planting could begin!

Fueled by tea and biscuits (very much appreciated), we set to work and by the end of the evening, we had definitely put Ground Force to shame!

It was a real pleasure to meet Kahn and his mum who have clearly had a huge impact on their community - we hope to be back in the future!

On a sunny Monday evening, 7 Goodgymmers met with Lark Lane Neighbourhood Association to help spruce up one of the cities’ liveliest streets. We were tasked with some weeding and a general litter pick.

With memories of Eurovision celebrations fresh in our minds we were expecting to be faced with quite the task! But it was rather a tale of two halves. On the way down the lane we found tonnes of litter; cigarette butts, ice cream spoons, vapes, you name it. Not to mention some rather strange things in the flower beds.

However, we were pleasantly surprised to find the other half of the street to be much cleaner! We still managed to retrieve five whole bags of litter and Pauline did a rather wonderful job of weeding the beds.

Well done everyone, we definitely left the lane in a much better state than we found it and it was lovely to get so many positive comments from the locals. All in all a great way to spend a sunny Monday.

This week we were once again at The Greenhouse Project. In fact, it was the 20th task we've done there! Not only that, but it was Jake's 10th task with us - excellent work!

4 runners met on Hope Street and ran the 2km up to Lodge lane to meet the others. Special shout out to Steph and Laura who had run all the way from Lark Lane (and back!) You're doing an amazing job of getting the miles in!

We were greeted by Jess and Pat who informed us that the task was to help get the back yard ready for a big launch event on Thursday. On going outside we realised what a transformation the space had already undergone, with new hedges and a fence, which we were tasked with painting!

We started by weeding around the bottom to ensure we could access the fence and then set to work with tiny brushes and a huge tub of paint.

It was a bit if a race against time, but we managed it! As they say, many hands make light work and with 10 of us we were able to get a job done that would have taken them hours! Well done everybody, it may have been difficult to see our achievements in the dark, but I've heard it looks fantastic in the daylight!

Well what larks we had this evening.

Heetu and Sallyann ran from Lark Lane to the meeting place just in case there was anyone joining us - we then ran back to Lark Lane to meet everyone. Well done Heetu for a week back and a 4 mile run before she picked a piece of litter up.

At Lark Lane the group met Helen who had sent up the Lark Lane Wombles. She provided us with the litter pickers and bags and explainedthat the wombles had been out so once we had cleared any litter from the lane itself we could go into the surrounding streets (underground overground........ anyone remember this?) . Despite Lark Lane being full of cafes, bars and take aways it was remarkably clear - its obvious that the newly formed Wombles are doing a great job - however we still found during an hour we filled 8 bags of rubbish.

It was a lovely atmosphere and we had many kindly and funny comments: people thanking us, one man asking where are capes were (as he thought we were super heroes) the answer back was in the wash.... another laughingly sayingi t was late for community service before thanking us with a broad smile, a shout outofthanks from a seond floor window and roses given by the local florist as a thank you. Very quickly the night was over - 8 litter bags piled up and photos taken (thanks to Carys for the group photo)
