Blown away at the Windsor Covid Clinic

Tue 4 May
Report written by Sara Powell

Not literally blown away, but nearly!! We had to hold onto our hats and our patients at the clinic today. The weather was against us, but it was another busy clinic. We managed to get all the patients in and out in record time. They were mainly second doses of the AZ vaccine, so the patients new the protocol.

Great teamwork as per normal. Well done to everyone involved.

Spring has SpRUNg! Let's get to WALK and re-CYCLE our old stuff.

Fri 30 Apr
Report written by Amy Lovell

This community mission was all about Spring cleaning with a conscience. It prompted us to look a bit further than our wheelie bin to find charities and organisations who would help us do some good with our 'unwanted junk'. It feels great to de-clutter, and it feels even better to know that we are not simply clogging up landfill, but also helping others.

It was brilliant to see participation from a few different GoodGym areas. Some examples of how people got involved included:

Vicki from Portsmouth did a mega Spring clean including her whole house and attic! She found new homes or uses for toys, clothing, batteries, plastic bags, games, fitness equipment, coffee grounds, jam jars and much much more, and walked to deliver or donate where possible. Next she is tackling a friend's garage... and then I'm going to kidnap her and ask her to do my house!

Katie, also from Portsmouth, ran to donate children's winter coats to the community coat rails, adult coats to the community wardrobe and other clothes to the salvation army.

In Windsor and Maidenhead Sula, Tara and Ruth gave their unwanted running kit to Amy, who is making a bulk donation to Rerun Clothing. Amanda dropped 5 massive bags at Thames Hospice charity shop and was pleasantly surprised to see the kids' toys out for sale 48hrs later making the Hospice money. Jess also dropped off items at charity shops.

Well done to everyone who took part.

GoodGym Spring Clean - ANYTIME IN MARCH OR APRIL

Fri 30 Apr 23:00 pm
From your home, Any city, Any postcode
De-cluttering with a conscience

This community mission starts NOW and you have until the end of April to participate.

Birds are singing and daffodils are blooming - time for a Spring clean!

We don't just want to send our clutter to landfill though, we want to find a way to recycle it and/or to help it find a new owner. Why not use your daily exercise in March and/or April to make this happen?

Below are some ideas for how you could participate in this community mission. If you have other ideas or know of other similar organisations then please add links in the comments.

  • Recycle your unwanted running kit with Rerun Clothing. If you live in Maidenhead email amylovell@goodgym.org for a local address where you can drop off kit. Otherwise check this page for your nearest drop off location. Maybe you could even collect kit from others in your GoodGym area or running club to drop off in bulk?

  • Recycle your running shoes with Runners Need by dropping off at a SOEX recycling station. Find out more here. Do this before the 25th of March and get a voucher for £20 off your next pair of trainers at Runners Need.

  • Support your local Homeless Shelter by donating good quality items that are on their wish-list. If you live in Windsor and Maidenhead, you can follow the Windsor Homeless Project's 'What we need when we need it' page on Facebook to see what they are short of. If you have details of a shelter near you, perhaps you would consider coordinating a collection for your area?

  • Donate your unwanted, good quality, baby/childcare items to a local charity supporting families in need. If you live in Windsor or Maidenhead, you can follow the Baby Bank on Facebook to see what is on their wish-list. They tend to post one monthly, so scroll down the page to find the latest month if you can't see it straight away.

  • Recycle unwanted plastic baby-related items like dummies, sippy cups and plastic bibs with La Romi and they will be made into everything from ping pong tables to watering cans. Click here for more details.

  • Recycle your High 5 Sports Nutrition Wrappers through their partnership with Terracycle. Click here for more details.

  • Take a bunch of old plastic bags on your next trip to a big supermarket so they can be recycled.

  • Browse the Terracycle website here to find out where you can drop off all sorts of items for recycling, from old Hasbro Games to contact lenses and crisp packets.

  • Support your local charity shops (when open for donations) by donating good quality items for them to sell on.

Please send any photos or anecdotes from your spring cleaning to amylovell@goodgym.org for the run report.

This community mission starts NOW and you have until the end of April to participate.

No time to lose at the Windsor Covid Clinic

Tue 27 Apr
Report written by Sara Powell

It was a very busy clinics for the Windsor Covid team . Pfzier, was the the vaccination, and the second cohort were all coming back for their second vaccinations. This puts more pressure on the clinic, as more time has to be taken into consideration. Luckily, all the patients now know the drill, as well as the experienced volunteers and NHS staff.

Bravo to all that are involved in this weeks clinics.

Monday Funday - getting stronger every day!

Mon 26 Apr
Report written by Julia Shmotkina

Well done everyone for taking out time to get strong and move on the first day of the working week! We did some dynamic stretches before doing some glutes and leg work, then moving into all-body plank variations and push ups as well as core work. We finished with gentle stretches. Great job everyone!

Paint nothing tyred or weedy about this team!

Wed 21 Apr
Report written by Amy Lovell

It was a pleasure to be back at St Luke's C of E School for the first time this year, and the novelty of seeing each other in 'real life' has not worn off. Everyone was in great spirits.

Our tasks for the evening included lots of weeding around the car park and spray-painting 6 tyres to brighten them up in preparation for being re-purposed as planters.

Anna and Amy tackled the painting, concluding that the planters will look very cheerful but a second coat will be needed to finish them off. We hope that might be possible when we return to the school on the 12th of May.

Jess, Juli, Matt, Nicola and Sara made impressive progress in the car park, gathering huge piles of weeds.

Afterwards the majority of the team were up for a run, so we decided to go together to 'get the GoodGym tag', which is part of this game we are playing to challenge and inspire us to run more this month - such fun! Extra kudos to Juli, who was dressed for gardening rather than running and nipped home to change at the end of our session when she learned that a run was on the cards. Matt posted the next tag, which is at the top of a certain hill...can't wait to see who runs that one!

Great work team! Tyres and weeds sorted, but there paint nothing tyred or weedy about you lot!

Every Second Dose Counts

Tue 20 Apr
Report written by Sara Powell

Wonderful weather, patients, volunteers and NHS staff. It was a glorious morning at the Windsor Covid Vaccination Clinic. A constant flow of patients, mainly having their second vaccinations, kept everyone on their toes.

Juli did a fantastic job on Wednesday, as a much needed outside volunteer. This was Juli's first time at the clinic, and they were so grateful for her help.
