GG Brent - Back to school

Mon 20 Sep 18:45 pm
Papagayo Cafe, 97 High Road, London, NW10 2SL
Helping this local school with physical task

PLEASE REMEMBER TO SIGN UP - YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ATTEND IF YOU DO NOT SIGN UP HERE

It's back to school for GG Brent this week as we head to Mora Primary School to help with a big delivery of sand that needs distributing in the playground. A great physical task for us and a big help for the school. It's a 2 - 3km run this week. On the off chance that the sand is not delivered in time there will be another task for us at the school!

The Queensbury is unfortunately closed again so we'll be using Papagayo Cafe again but please find everyone on outside the cafe. You can still leave valuables but the run leaders or Taskforce will help with this to prevent any unnecessary congregation inside - do be prepared for the weather and the dark by bringing a head torch

Getting the garden on track!

Mon 13 Sep
Report written by Liz James

Helen, Samina and Liz began the evening with a short warm-up, followed by a run. There was no track to follow, so the pavement had to suffice. However, they were on track to begin the task at Brondesbury energy garden on time!

We were joined by Karen and Pete and we were greeted by Naomi, who explained the task for the evening. Working alongside the railway tracks, we were training our arm muscles. The task was to dig the brambles and their roots out of the ground. The roots were deep and entwined, so it required a lot of energy to get the garden on track.

We finished the evening with a short run and some cool down stretches before heading to the pub to discuss the pun!

GG Brent - Energy Garden Help out

Mon 13 Sep 18:45 pm
The Queensbury, 110 Walm Lane, London, NW2 4RS
Bringing some joy to our local stations through plants

PLEASE REMEMBER TO SIGN UP - YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ATTEND IF YOU DO NOT SIGN UP HERE

This week we are back helping Energy Garden. This organisation brings plants to station areas on the overground improving the environment and general well being to stations around London. As the gardens have been neglected during the pandemic it is time to get them looking ship shape and that is where we come in. We're hoping to help a lot over the coming months and this week we are helping to clear some brambles that have over grown the area. It's a big task but just the kind of thing we can get stuck in to. It's a shorter run (less than 2km) but the work will be hard - come join us and show us your mettle

We'll still be meeting at the Queensbury but please find everyone on the outside area in front of the pub. You can still leave valuables but the run leaders or Taskforce will help with this to prevent any unnecessary congregation inside.

Is possible please bring your own gardening gloves too!

Fairy tool of New Fork

Mon 6 Sep
Report written by Liz James

We met outside Papagayo cafe for a quick warm up. We quickly set off on our journey to Harlesden Gardens (AKA Fairy garden). At the task we met Fairy Garden-mother, Gill.

Princess Tabitha, Prince Lee and Princess Liz quickly set to work, cleaning the tools. They scrubbed the trowels, spades and shears until they were as shiny as a mirrors. Then we could ask, who is the fairest of them all?

Meanwhile, Princess Helen and Princess Samina dug out the weeds.

Finally, our work was done and the hard workers could travel to the ball (AKA Papagayo cafe). Sadly, the pumpkins weren't ready for harvesting, so we had to travel by foot!

Report written by Tabitha Skinner

An awesome foursome met on bank holiday Monday and ran to our regular spot at Clitterhouse farm.

Samina took charge of watering the garden plants with the hose pipe, some were in pots, others covered in net, including various different vegetables.

Pete, Lee and Tabitha got to work clearing the sticky willy from the paths and flower beds.

Time flew and soon we hot footed it back to Willesden Green , great work Brent Team !

Shaken, but not stirred.

Mon 23 Aug
Report written by Liz James

Pete, Karen, Samina and Liz met outside the Queensbury. Unfortunately, the pub wasn't open this evening. We weren't shaken, just a little extra weight for our run. Liz led a short warm-up before we set off for our run.

At the task, Philip, Sabina and Danny were awaiting our arrival. The instructions were to pull the weeds, shake the weeds and drop them into the bucket. (No stirring required). At first it appeared like a long task, but everyone worked really hard and soon cleared a large section of the path.

Time for a quick photo shoot before running back. We didn't quite make it as far as the Queensbury. We finished our run outside Papagayo with some stretches and a cool beverage.
