We are delighted to be helping set up and help out at the front garden sale for Kath's Place to raise funds for the We Care Food Pantry. Kath's Place is a charity shop, food bank and a hub that offers support and advice for people in the area that are struggling.
There will be a variety of tasks on the day, including setting up, helping with the front garden sale, getting involved in face painting, promoting and raising awareness of the work Kath's Place do and tidying away.
The front garden sale is running between 11am and 4pm and volunteers can spend as much or as little time as they have helping out.
Roseanne has done 10 good deeds. They are a trusted GoodGym runner and are now eligible to join their local TaskForce.
These superstars braved the hot weather and cleared the paths from nettles, now people visiting won't have to dodge the nettles on the path that leads to the beautiful space.
We gathered outside Glass Mill in the sunshine, a slightly smaller group than expected but that turned out to be perfect for the task. It was a slightly longer run over to Wildcat Wilderness and in the heat - everyone did AMAZING!
Our task for this evening was weed bashing the nettles and weeds that were hanging over the path and catching unsuspecting legs (like mine, after all these years I've still not learnt to wear long leggings at Wildcat). Everyone got quickly stuck in and the path was cleared in no time! We even found a frog.
We said goodbye to the cyclists and made our way slowly back to Glass Mill which led to the realisation that there are limited road crossings (time for breaks) on this route. We stick together as a group on our group runs so we stopped to catch our breath and adjust jackets.
Next weeks group run is postering for Food2You – we are going to be heading off in groups in different directions to help spread the word about this wonderful cause - sign up here.
The wonderful Deborah Ubee Trust are preparing to reopen their doors and so five goodgymers descended in west Greenwich to get the windows outside the building clean and shining! Greeted by Ziggy the dog we got to the job at hand.
Equipped with cleaning solution and lots of sponges, cloths a squeegee and importantly a step ladder, the group got to work cleaning up the windows. With just one step ladder between us all we took it in turn trying to reach the tops and my jumping technique proved hit and miss…
After only 40 minutes the windows and frames had been cleaned and the glass polished to remove any smears or smudges. We left leaving the outside looking a lot cleaner and satisfied with our (almost) professional window washing complete.
Welcome to GoodGym Lewisham!
We're a friendly and social group who combine exercise with helping out in the local community. We meet every Monday evening to get active and do a physical task to help the charities and community organisations in our area.
We are returning to Wildcat Wilderness - a GoodGym Lewisham favourite. There'll be plenty of tasks to get involved in including weed bashing, watering, clearing new paths and occasionally fruit picking!
The run this week is one of our longer ones, around 4km each way. We always have a back-marker so no-one is left behind - we're about achieving something together, so you'll always be welcome no matter what your pace is.
We meet at Glass Mill Leisure Centre at 6.45pm, so a short walk from Lewisham Station. Look out for the red t-shirts! As this is one of our longer runs, please arrive promptly so we can set off on time and make the most of our time a the task.
The Deborah Ubee Trust was founded in 2011 in recognition of the fact that there was a severe lack of counselling provision for the majority of people in the local area. They provide counselling and therapeutic services and promote emotional health and wellbeing.
Following their closure during the pandemic, their return has been hampered by a recurring leak which has put a large area of their centre out of action. Now that they've arranged a long term repair, they'd like to have their windows cleaning for their reopening in September.
Come along, bring some gloves and enjoy a satisfying evening making the windows shine!
It's back by popular demand... GoodGym-ers old and new are invited to join the second Greenwich social picnic!
The plan is to meet in Greenwich Park by the bandstand (right in the centre, near the Pavillion Cafe) from 5:30pm, then find somewhere to sit on the grass nearby. Feel free to arrive a bit later, or shoot off early if you need to.
It'll be another super relaxed evening. Bring along something to drink and eat if you'd like (home baking strongly encouraged!) Bring along something to sit on if you're feeling fancy. Bring along outdoor games if you want to see us making fools of ourselves!
GoodGym-ers from Greenwich, and all of our neighbouring areas, are more than welcome. Looking forward to seeing lots of you there!
Note: Hopefully the sun will shine down upon us once again, but if the weather turns out to be awful the social will be postponed until the following Wednesday. So please do double check this listing and/or your email inboxes before setting off!
