Neil is a now a fully fledged GoodGym runner. They've just run to do good for the first time. They are out there making amazing things happen and getting fit at the same time.
Neil completed a community mission. Instead of watching TV or lying in bed, Neil was out there making their community a better place to be. For making that choice they have earned the community cape.
We were back at the East End Women foodbank for our weekly essential mission. Charlotte and Neil (well done to Neil on his first community mission!) started packing the driver’s cars while I helped unpack foods donated from supermarkets on to the shelves.
Once most of delivery drivers had picked up their food parcels Charlotte and Neil helped me put food tins in the correct places. Once the main shelves were rammed with tins, we organised the storeroom so the many tins of beans and soup were all nicely packed together. We all helped packing the car of the last driver.
Just when we thought we were finishing off, a surprise delivery turned up which had been rerouted due to the snow. We unloaded loads of fresh fruit and veg, cheese, milk and sausages. I unfortunately had to rush off back to work but Charlotte and Neil managed to stay, and help make sure the delivery was all out in the correct places. Well done everyone!
As always a fantastic way to spend a long lunch break!
Kudos to everyone who completed last week's 5k your way- you're all epic.
This week's challenge is to collect miles of smiles. Keep a track of your distance, linking to Strava for the team effort of the January challenge, and collect smiles along the way. Try to greet everyone you pass with a smile or a hello and keep count of how many you manage to share.
You can walk, run or cycle for this one. Let's spread some GG love.
East End Women is a Community Programme that helps Women in the North East to achieve their potential.
Each week they deliver over 1 TONNE of food to local people in Walker which is amazing! This is equivalent to 2520 meals.
Thursday is their large delivery day and they would absolutely love our help, with a variety of tasks including lifting, bagging up and general organisation. This is currently completed by one person which is a lot of hard work, and they would really appreciate some extra hands.
Please note that this community mission has been cancelled.
Come along to lend a hand with a big painting project at Key Enterprises.
Key Enterprises provide supported activities from their base in North Tyneside to adults with learning disabilities, mental health problems or acquired brain injuries. Through their involvement with KE, individuals develop practical skills within working departments whilst building confidence and a sense of community.
Key Enterprises have asked for our help in painting their large canteen area. Social distancing is guaranteed, and PPE will be provided, but please feel free to wear your own mask.
Feel free to come along for the whole mission or drop in as you please.
Four of us got wrapped up for tonight's Walk Talk Donate 5k walk along the Tyne.
It was great to catch up and talk about what we have been doing in the lost months of lockdown, and it was really special having Neil along for his first GoodGym experience as a GoodGymer- we are used to seeing him in hi-vis as a brilliant Task Owner at Newcastle Eagles.
Check out the stack of donations for East End foodbank too! I'll take them along this week.
A great start to the week!
