Building veggie beds at the Wonderful Woodlands Farm

Mon 3 May 10:00 am
Sitopia @ Woodlands Farm, 331 Shooters Hill, London, DA16 3RP
Help develop a new space to grow fresh vegetables for the local community

Sitopia Farm is a new social farming enterprise in Greenwich! They will be growing (using organic, regenerative techniques) vegetables, salad and flowers on 2 acres of the Wonderful Woodlands Farm and undertaking a huge range of community activities. More details about them and their crowdfunder here: https://www.spacehive.com/sitopiafarm. Their website is here: https://www.sitopiafarm.com/

They'd love help to build some new vegetable and flower beds. It's physical work - shovelling lots of compost and woodchip, but satisfying! Days are 10-4, with tea+ lunch breaks! Of course, if you can't stay the full day, that's fine - just drop Rachel an email to let me know what times you can do. I won't be there on the day but have they are a friendly bunch and this is a great opportunity to meet some other local volunteers!

They ask all new volunteers to come at all possible at 10 for a short induction.

FIRST β€œPOST” LOCKDOWN LEAFLET DROP πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

Mon 26 Apr

Report written by Tim Dickson

Wowza what a fab evening. It's been a long time since we've met up at Crooklog sports centre for a Monday evening task.

It was definitely chilly out this evening but it didn't take us long to warm up especially with one of my musical starters to get the heart rates up. With 5 minutes of speed freaks and 33 burpees under our belts the team headed off with leaflets in hand. It was like we'd never been away, the team suddenly became super posties as they weaved in and out of gardens dispensing their leaflets like well oiled machines, it was memorizing to watch πŸ˜‚

Thank you Claudia, John, Sarah, Caroline, A, Martin you were all awesome.

Helping out in our local community

Hi Goodgymers, we’ve got our first Monday evening group run / walk out. We’ve been ask to help leaflets in our community to help those who are worried about, or aren’t on how to go about getting the covid vaccine. As a community we have to keep everyone informed about how and why everyone in our community needs to be vaccinated.

Being our first get together since early last year it would be just awesome to finally run and walk with you all again. So come on, put this date in your diaries and let’s get active............ Tim

Martin Dennis has done a 6 month mission streak. Mon 19 Apr 2021

Martin just completed a six month streak of doing missions. That’s so many bags of garden rubbish cleared and jobs done to help someone out and put a smile on their face. Give Martin a cheer to encourage them to keep up the good work.

Lambs, ewes and vegetables

Mon 19 Apr

Report written by Linda Boscic

Martin and I along with 3 non Goodgym volunteers went to work creating raised beds using London green compost (generated from London’s composed waste). We shovelled the compost into our own wheelbarrows and helped to create rows of beds that will be used to grow and sell organic fruit & vegetables. This is a very physical task but very rewarding and helped we had lovely weather and could watch the ewes all waiting to deliver their lambs .

Cereal'ously hard work

Thu 25 Feb
β€’
Report written by Sean

Three Goodgymmers (Sean, Danielle, Martin) were tasked with sorting, organising and rounding up the crates of cereals at the food bank ready to be loaded up and distributed locally. We gathered the goods outside where they were organised by expiration date, crated up and then labelled ready for Gill and other volunteers to organise onto their next pick up. It involved lots of lifting and peeping at barcodes for best by dates but together with other regular volunteers we made light work of a seemingly gargantuan task and even made room for a cheeky outdoors tea break and a socially distanced natter before the rain set in. Great effort guys! (and sorry forgot to take photos so an old sweaty one of me will have to suffice unless anyone else did!)
