Getting their fitness in early, several GoodGymers, along with Poppy 🐾, started the morning at Bexley parkrun in Danson Park.
Then we headed across to the other side of the park where, joined by more GG-ers, we were back at one of our regular gigs helping the dedicated and award-winning volunteers of the Friends of the Old English Garden.
Our task was to help prepare some flower beds in readiness for planting a display for the Queens Jubilee next spring and summer.
At each flower bed we loosened the soil, dug it out, mixed in homemade fertiliser to enrich it, then shovelled the earth back into the plot.
We 𝘥𝘶𝘨 deep and 𝘴𝘱𝘢𝘥𝘦 good progress until, in contrast to the weather 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘬cast, the heavens opened, quickly making the ground - and us - too wet to get the job finished.
Most of the GoodGymers headed home but a couple stayed a little longer to help clean and put away the gardening tools, rewarded with a warming cup of tea and delicious rock cakes.
Thank you for having us and see you on 20th November for our next installment.
It’s no way task keeping these award winning gardens looking good so this is why the crew from the Old English Gardens call on the help of Goodgym.
We’ll be meeting at the gardens and our contact will be Nicky or Tom. Bring some gloves and you green fingers 🙌🏻
Wow, Martin has completed a 12 month mission streak. That means they've cleared gardens, moved furniture and changed light bulbs in spring, summer, autumn and even winter. Show your support and give them a massive cheer!
Early Morning Stag Do
🎵It was a hard mornings work and we were working with some logs🎶.
This mornings task, which followed the Bexley parkrun, was to assist the Friends of Danson Park in creating an environment for the nesting of stag beatles. This involved digging a number of holes and filling with logs and smaller branches. Hopefully the stag beetles will nest underneath this structure before emerging in seven years time. We managed to build five of these structures before the FODP called time and invited us for a coffee at Danson Stables. The FODP were a very friendly bunch and appreciated our efforts and we expect another invite in the future. The article in the recent Bexley Magazine prompted FODP to approach Goodgym for this task, so maybe further opportunities may arise from other community groups who have seen this article. Poppy wants to apologise to Martin for nicking his sandwich.
Fun task alert. Meeting at Danson Park around 10.00ish (after park run) we’ll be meeting Lyn the office by the toilet block which is located to the left from the main road (the path just before the mansion house). We’ll be helping to build stag beetle hotels and repairing and tidying up the wood fence along the wooded footpath.
Lyn will be there from 10.00 and will be the main point of contact for the task. Hope to see ya there team 👊🏻😃
Meeting at the church car park we’ll be planting plants and pulling weeds to keep the work we’ve done looking good.
Bring your own gloves and head torch if you have one.
Another big tidy up out the way as we took on the side entrance at Danson Youth Centre. The weeds and bushes had taken over and it was time for us to fight back and reclaim lost land 🤣
With a small but brave team we attack with a host of weaponry cutting down, digging and clipping, however we weren't without casualties as an army of stinging nettles held there ground for a while. In the end the Bexley Goodgym garden army were just to strong 💪🏻
Thanks everyone for their hard work and thanks Sarah for the great pun 🙌🏻
Hi team, we’re nearly there. We’ve just gotta finish up in the back car park. All hands on deck will makes easy work 👊🏻😁
We’ll meet at the community centre at 19.00 so we can get started straight away as the nights coming in quite early now.
Bring gloves and a head torch 🔦 if you have one
Wow, another full on task last night as we pushed forward to cut back two very over grown trees before the dark took over. We split into two teams and with gardening tools in hand done the business, well done team.
We also played a quick fitness game who 'could you be shalom priest', yep, i think we should all just stick to being Goodgymers 🤣🤣
Thanks Sarah for todays pun, i really like it 👊🏻😃 Again guys thanks so much for all the work you done, the task owners are really pleased with everything we've, you are all awesome.
