Shearing up that Hill
The task tonight was at the Pagoda Arts centre, a mere stones throw from our usual meeting point. So after meeting on Hope Street the runners and walkers set off in opposite directions with the runners taking a meandering 2.5km route to meet the others there.
On arrival we were briefed about the task - clearing a grassy verge of grass, weeds and litter.
If we were being perfectly honest, we were initially sceptical of our ability to perform a task fit for a strimmer. 40 mins later however and the transformation was evident! All whilst trying not to disturb the tai chi class going on inside. Well done team!

Clearing up the garden with our friends at Pagoda Arts

Welcome to GoodGym Liverpool
We're a friendly and social group who combine exercise with helping out in the local community. We meet every Monday evening to get active and do a physical task to help the charities and community organisations and projects across Liverpool.
Most Group Runs will be lead one of our fabulous volunteer qualified Run Leaders, but watch out for ones listed as 'Social Runs' as this means no Run Leader is present but we still go out and run together keeping our 'no one left beind' GoodGym vibe in place!
The Task
Pagoda Arts are an award winning organisation who provide opportunities for everyone to take part in Chinese Cultural activities. Providing services for the local Chinese community and anyone who wants to learn and experience Chinese arts.
We've done many tasks at Pagoda in the past, and this is our first time back after lockdown, so we are excited to be back again! We'll be helping to tidy up the garden with some weeding and litter picking.
All tools are provided but please bring your own gloves.
The Run
We'll be meeting at the Suitcases on Hope Street for a warm up and a run (with walk option) to the task. What 3 Words meet up link
Our Run Leader Sophie will take us on a run around the local area, weaving through the streets to the centre on Henry Street.

We had a Soup-er Time!
This was our forth visit to help out at Liverpool Zero Waste Community on their Friday evening session. They have an ever growing number of sessions every day across Liverpool and it's really worth checking out their social media pages to see all the amazing work they are doing!
This evening we had myself, Heetu and Mairead who have all done this session before, Jo and Ben, both seasoned GoodGymers but their first time with LZWC and brand new GoodGymer Jane
It was a quieter night than previous weeks with not as much surplus food arriving from shops around Liverpool. But we got stuck in cleaning up spilled soup, setting up chairs and tables, sorting through bags and crates of pastries, vegetables, frozen meals, fruit and cakes and sharing them out between the 30 bags all ready to be handed to people for family and community meals.

Gazeboed there, done that
Love Wavertree were hosting a quarterly street market today and Goodgym got involved in the exciting preparation!
Helping Elke and Emma, we started into gazebo building! Six in total. Inspired by Mairead, leading by example, during a lull in out to dos, we all piled in to tidy up a mound of rubble and rubbish and leave things tidier. As stall owners arrived we helped them with their wares and the yard was looking like a street market in no time.
Well done all for helping out a local community group who are bringing positive changes.

Helping to set up tables and gazebos for the Love Wavertree Summer Community Market

Love Wavertree are a community organisation of volunteers working together to provide community events and support throughout Wavertree. They have asked if we can come along and help with the set up for their next community market, a day of stalls, activities and performances!
We'll be there in the morning to help set up, but do feel free to hang around for the day and enjoy the market festival!
All tools will be provided but please bring your own gloves!

Supporting Liverpool Zero Waste Community

Liverpool Zero Waste Community do an amazing amount of work saving surplus food from shops and supermarkets across Liverpool and then distributing it to community groups and family's. Supporting people in food poverty and reducing the amount of still fresh and completely edible food going to landfill. They have several venues across South Liverpool and rely on an amazing team of volunteers distributing food 7 days a week.
Building community is their ethos, so we are aiming to join them once a month to give a GoodGym hand at one of their venues off Smithdown Road.
It's a later session than we usually do as the surplus food is collected from the shops towards close of business. We'll be meeting at the venue to help unload the cars of trays, crates, boxes and bags of food. We'll then be helping to allocate it all out into large bags ready to be collected by family's, and then ending by clearing up the hall.
We're going to be doing a monthly session at their venue Elm Hall Drive so do join in!

Mairead completed a community mission. Instead of watching TV or lying in bed, Mairead was out there making their community a better place to be. For making that choice they have earned the community cape.
