Flyer-works Night

Lambeth Report written by Nicky Woodall (she/her)

28 excellent runners met at Papa's Park and braved the rain to support two brilliant community organisations - what better way to spend BONFIRE NIGHT?!

We welcomed Andy and Tony to their first run with us and then heard about all the fun things coming up in the GoodGym universe:

  • GoodGym London Social - Friday 8th November, from 6:30pm at Bar Topolski.
  • Cross-country - Saturday 9th November, 1pm in Stanborough Park, Welwyn Garden City.
  • Lots of community missions.

Onto tonight - George led a warm-up in the basketball court before splitting into groups to complete our task.

David and Charlotte led a brisker group up the hill to Cressingham Gardens Estate. Victoria and Tim led a more relaxed group in the same directions. Both groups were delivering flyers for the brilliant Advocacy Academy who have made a film with people from Cressingham Gardens and are inviting residents to attend the screenings. The film is called We the people and is about past, present and future of activism in Brixton, which sounds cool.

Meanwhile, Jim, Sam and I led another group of flyer-ers to Herne Hill where we were telling people about Repowering. This great organisation are installing solar panels in two local primary schools and encouraging local people to invest in shares to tackle climate change and benefit the community - DOUBLE WINNER!

Each group swiftly delivered their flyers so we headed back to base for some quick fitness (aka circuits) before enjoying some DELICIOUS BISCUITS baked by Tessa and Charlotte. YUM.

Join us next week for a new task (exciting stuff) and more baking.

Pee? Ah no, I've got a GoodGym run to the Portico!

Lambeth Report written by Katie Welford

Let me tell you this run was flipping sweaty! Not content with being all rainy, the weather decided to turn the world into a humid sweatbox just in time for our Tuesday evening run.

Some of our regulars are still recovering from their awesome efforts at the Paris marathon, so a smaller but indeed perfectly formed group of 21 covered two tasks with aplomb. James B led a group 1.5km to the Remakery. This brilliant space has a workshop and teaches people how to recycle unloved materials and turn them into things of wonder and beauty again. Nice!

They had some moving of objects to do as part of a Spring clean, including a flipping PIANO! Top work team.

The rest of us headed on the 4km uphill journey to West Norwood and the Portico Gallery. The courtyard area outside needed tidying up. In particular, a massive pile of ash and bricks had to be pulled apart after 'too many hippies had started fires there'.

It's the hippies! Said John.

After putting all the bricks to one side so they can be saved for something else, all of the ash was scraped up and put in sacks ready to be taken away. We also moved some large metal structures from here to there and put some big bags full of stones onto a trolley (these act as weights for the gazebos used in the West Norwood Feast!).

The downhill run home was a bit easier but it was still very sticky and we were all glad to go and have a nice shower at the end. Not together though.
