Rocky Road to Vegan Blondies!

Tue 23 Nov
β€’
Report written by Yianny

A bumper Tuesday for GG Lambeth runners with two tasks, runs heading off in opposite directions, an Area Activator in a boot/on crutches and hand torches running out of battery throughout the evening! πŸ˜–

In true Lambeth style two Task Force members stepped forward to lead the runs - shout out to Charlotte & Sarah - the Autumn classic collecting and bagging leaves at Brixton Road Youth Centre and making a start on GROAD moving their donations into a new storage unit. πŸ’ͺ

The sprinters headed off for the 1.5kms to Brixton Road where it has been 'raining leaves' and were able to clear a huge amount (see photos!) while the middle distance runners made the 3.5km journey (with a long hill climb) to West Norwood and were faced with a Herculean mountain of donations to move. πŸš€

There are still two more opportunities to support Get Rid of and Donate this week with Community Missions on Wednesday and Friday - if you are free please do sign up!

With some fantastic back marking everyone arrived back at base safely and in time to celebrate Michael's fantastic achievement of 150 Good Deeds while enjoying Rocky Road bites and vegan Blondies! (Thanks Charlotte & Tim) 😍

Clearing brambles, spreading woodchip and planting bulbs with Friends of Mile End Park. AND CELEBRATING BETH'S 1000TH GOOD DEED.

Mon 29 Nov 18:30 pm
Mile End Park, Clinton Road, London, E3 4QY
Today we join Friends of Mile End Park to get some much-needed gardening done.

What's the story?

We've been asked to join the Friends of Mile End Park for the second time this year, helping get some tough gardening done.

We're also going to be celebrating the biggest milestone, as tonight, as she helps weed, de-bramble and chat, our Beth Hoskins will celebrate her 1000th good deed.

Come and join this brilliant Monday night gathering, as we enjoy being active and useful, and celebrate this vast commitment and contribution.

What we will be doing

  • We will meet outside The Art Pavilion in Mile End Park at 6:30pm for a workout. There will be somewhere to leave bags if you're coming straight from work.

  • If you'd like to join for task-only, we will meet at the Pavilion at 7pm.

  • We'll meet John from Friends of Mile End Park and spend an hour or so clearing brambles and nettles in this popular stretch.

What you need to know

  • Please wear long sleeves and trousers. John, our task owner, will be bringing tools and sturdy gloves, but do bring own gloves and head torches if you have them.

Two For Tuesday - Brixton Road Youth Centre x GROAD !!

Tue 23 Nov 18:45 pm
Papa's Park, 10-17 Pulross Road, London, SW9 8AF
Clear the path around the building so it stops getting soggy and mossy!

This week's closer task is a regular for the Autumn - Brixton Road Youth Centre has some huge trees and it's the time of year where they don't stop shedding their leaves...

We'll meet Sharron and Cathy who will prep us with bags and rakes and we'll blitz the outside of the building πŸ’ͺ

It's about a 2k run each way but we'll have a longer option for those that fancy it.

Please bring gardening gloves and a head torch if you have them! 🧀

Task 2 is to help our friends at GROAD with a internal move at their storage in Norwood - clearing three units into one. πŸ‹

New to GG Lambeth? We're a super friendly group who meet at Papa's Park near Brixton Station at 7pm on Tuesdays. We run to a local organisation, do a physical task for them and run back by 8:30. You can leave things in Papa's Cafe where there's a loo too! Email me if you've got any questions??

Weeding & Writing

Tue 16 Nov
β€’
Report written by Yianny

πŸƒ 14 Intrepid runners braved the slick streets and traffic of Brixton to rescue the 50 meter long planters at Jubilee Primary School from weeds.

Pre-run briefing was delivered by Katie on the lifecycle of mushrooms that she picked up on last Saturday's Community Mission https://www.goodgym.org/reports/well-wasn-t-that-fun-guys

In one patch, once the weeds were cleared, a trove of rock hard potatoes (or possibly large pebbles were unearthed) alongside plastic gardening tools, many pencils, a tennis ball and a small chalk board. These rescued items will be put back to good use!

After 30 solid minutes of work ten black bags stuffed with garden waste were disposed of while part of the group did a quick fitness blast. πŸ‹

Special shout out to Kaz for daring to go where no one had gone before with his clearing of the outer boundaries and to Jessie who just hit the milestone of 25 Good Deeds !! ⭐

A big thank you to Juan at Jubilee Primary School for equipping us - we will be back to help scrape the old rubber ff the tarmac in the playground πŸ’ͺ !

On Your MARKs... Get Set... Gone.

Tue 9 Nov
β€’
Report written by Mark Gilyead

I don't know if a self indulgent pun is allowed but Sarah suggested it so I'm going with it.

Tonight was my last Group Run as Lambeth AA, which was kinda sad but also exciting, because the awesome Yianny is taking over! πŸŽ†πŸ’₯πŸŽ‰

We had THREE good deeds to get done and I can confirm they were completed. βœ… βœ… βœ…

But first... we met at PAPA's, welcomed Yianny and also Kaz here for his first Lambeth group run! We had a quick warm up outside and then split into 3 groups:

πŸ“¬Aislin and Nathan took a group to finish off a task we had last week - flyering for the fab GROAD who take donated clothes, housewares and furniture and give it out as part of their refugee and homelessness projects.

πŸ‚Sarah had a small group who were bagging up leaves at PAPA's - they included a little loop of the block to keep warm too!

πŸ‚And the rest of us ran 2k to Brixton Road Youth & Community Centre to also bag leaves - and thank goodness there were 17 of us because there were a hell of a lot of leaves... The bags that Sharron had bought were mostly quite small... but that did wonders for our self esteem as we filled twice as many as we normally would! (Seriously - see pic of Issy & bags). After half an hour we headed back with a few press ups, tricep dips, a wall sit and some squats on the way!

When we got back, we did a few stretches and then it was cake time! Sarah had prepared a "Goodbye Mark" cupcake message 😊 and Nathan's carrot cake cupcakes were absolutely delicious 🀀🀀🀀🀀 Also shout out to Tim for an iiiiiiincredible card (and cheers everyone else for the messages!).

We then went round the corner for a beverage! 🍻 It reminded me what makes the Lambeth community so damn special. Everyone who rocks up from those on 2 good deeds to 200 (and beyond...) is so awesome and friendly and I will really miss our weekly hangs to do good.

BIG LOVE ❀️

-- said Mark to the whole Lambeth gang.
