Eight Goodgymers met outside Somerset Point building and welcomed GG Brighton newest member Shirely.
We were greeted by Somerset Point resident Eilleen who showed us where the tools are and told us what needs to be done in different parts of the garden. We assigned ourselves different gardening tasks and started the work while chatting about our days and plans for the rest of the week.
In one hour, we were done and Eilleen was impressed with the output. We took a group selfie before heading on our different paths while feeling a little better for accomplishing another GG deed.
John is a now a fully fledged GoodGym runner. They've just run to do good for the first time. They are out there making amazing things happen and getting fit at the same time.
John completed a community mission. Instead of watching TV or lying in bed, John was out there making their community a better place to be. For making that choice they have earned the community cape.
Last night we returned to Palmeira Square which we hadn't visited for a while and was in need of a bit of TLC! Our main task was to clear the weeds that had built up all along the pathways, a tricking task that required some good hoeing skills. We welcomed John for his first ever task and he got stuck straight into the weeds and made light work of a long path. We were also joined by Sherman who was completing is 100th task! Sherman joined us all the way from Honk Kong not long after we started in Brighton and has been a regular ever since, most notable for his excellent photography despite his often sweaty subjects! A big milestone that takes a lot of commitment to reach, so well done Sherman look forward to seeing your wings soon! That commitment seemed to inspire some of the local residents who joined in clearing the paths, most notably a couple of very friendly Robins, although I think their motivation was more related to their stomachs. We each took up different areas of the square and by the end had a made a huge change to the paths and finished off with some litter picking here and there to bring some order back to the square. We will be heading back their next week to continue the improvements!
This is another council run seniors accommodation scheme with a garden maintained by the residents who can always do with an extra helping hand from Goodgym.
Tasks include lawn mowing and trimming and general gardening and tidying up.
Meet resident Eilleen at the front entrance between Montague Street and Somerset Street.
The Palmeira and Adelaide Squares gardening group have been busy maintaining this lovely space for the enjoyment of all residents and passers by. They have established a Garden Fund to raise money for green spaces through events and other channels. They are a Community Interest Company with the aims of caring for the gardens and promoting environmental and social initiatives. The squares are large so they can always use a little bit of extra help from Goodgym to keep on top of things.
Meet resident Stuart on the western side of Palmeira Square outside number 25-28 who will set you to work!
