Report written by Jonathan

Lets be honest, most of our green spaces are looking less than well.

However a bunch of our Goodgymmers emerged in the bright Saturday morning to help maintain some of the beds and sweep up some of the leaves and plants that hadn't made it!

Congrats to all for coming and to Meerav who was with us for the first time! Hope to see you again soon.

Rake it off, Rake it off!

Report written by Jonathan

On Tuesday evening we managed to wrangle 8 goodgymmers down to Brook Green to help clear out and give a little life to the plants around the edges.

Getting an arm workout in carrying a whole bin of water, we helped rake up the dead grass and leaves littering the ground around the plants whilst giving every plant a solid soaking.

Unfortunately, the ice-cream shop did close an hour earlier than expected, however a cool beverage at the pub was certainly a good way to lift the spirits.

Thanks to all for coming!

Please remember to bring Gardening Gloves. If we have time they'll be a chance either for an ice-cream, a coffee or a drink at The Queen's Head!

Look forward to seeing you there.

Weeding our way out of bind!

Report written by Jonathan

A muggy yet sunny day saw five GoodGymmers came together to help in the never ending battle against bind weed, which grew rampant over trees and bushes in parts of the Fulham Palace Gardens.

Setting about our work, we made our way up the beds, dodging sprinklers and nettles to get rid of the pesky invaders, enjoying a few blackberries that grew in the area. We also got to see some of the beds we had worked on earlier in the year, where a greater diversity of flowers and plants had grown as good sources of nectar and cover for many a small critter.

Afterwards, we grabbed a quick coffee/ cool drink from the Fulham Palace cafe and slowly put the world to rights as per usual before going to enjoy the rest of our weekends.

Post work tidy up and water!

Report written by Jonathan

6 GoodGymmers came together to help repair the wooden fence we'd put in last year that had been knocked askew by nearby council work.

After taking turn using the bulldog fence rammer tool we helped afix the posts with gardening twine to ensure it stays in place this time.

We also helped clear out the dead leaf and plant matter that was enveloping the ground around the posts. Finally, we gave all the burgeoning trees a healthy dose of water to ensure that they stayed healthy and strong during this extended dry period were going through.

A nice day out, complemented by ice-cream and coffee at the end.

TLC for Brook Green Wildlife Edge - Re-fixing Loose Fence Posts, Weeding, ad hoc Watering

Sat 23 Jul 10:30 am
Brook Green, London, W6 7BE
It will improve the appearance of the site and increase the survival rate of the trees

We'll be making full use of (hopefully) the cooler weather this weekend to help with some tidying up around the edges of Brook Green.

In particular we'll be helping repairing and improving the local environment for the trees previously planted so that they can hopefully survive and grow into majestic organisms!

Please remember to bring Gardening Gloves. We'll also have plenty of opportunity for an ice-cream or coffee after the event as well!

Look forward to seeing you there.

I've got the key, I've got the secret ๐Ÿ”‘

Tue 5 Jul

Report written by Bethan Critchley

Tonight we had seven H&F GoodGymers assemble at Furnivall Gardens to meet Una from the Friends of Furnivall gardens. This evening our job was to give the new saplings a good drink of water to help them through the hot weather, and also plant some new petunias. After carefully unravelling the hose and guiding it around the locals who were out enjoying the sunshine, we had a bit of a struggle getting the water flowing, even with the required key. Una's expertise got us underway... later on in the task we found that although all could possess the key, not all of us had the secret to get it flowing!!

We skilfully dodged passers-by, picnics and pooches with the hose, and had all the saplings watered at the east side of the gardens in no time at all. Whilst Sarah & Divy moved over to the west side to get the other hose going, the rest of us focused on planting some of the petunias by the river, and in the walled beds.

The hose on the west side of the gardens was a little old and damaged, therefore Divy had the very important job of holding the hose together (at the risk of getting rather damp) - what a hero! We made light work of the watering, and congregated to tidy the hoses away & pose for a quick group pic in the evening sunshine. Thank you also to Biscuits for bringing along chocolate bars for us all! ๐Ÿซ

Great work tonight team! To see what else is coming up, check out H&F's sessions here. Hopefully see you again soon. ๐Ÿ˜Š
