36 year-old Hackney resident, looking to do good while running :)
All six runners turned up, popped their protective gloves on and got to work pruning and trimming many an overgrown bush in Patriot Square. The task seemed pretty daunting especially as “wild”, “jungle” and “overgrown” had been banded about, but with Clair, Simon, Even, Stephen, Emma and Jessica poised and ready with secateurs it was soon whipped into shape and looking much tidier than before.
Margaret seemed impressed by the speed and overall enthusiasm displayed by each and every GoodGymmer.
Having finished the mission, we headed to Stephen’s balcony to join Cleopatra and Sherlock for crisps, hummus, Tangfastics and Prosecco. We all seemed to agree that heading to the Town Hall hotel for breakfast or a Michelin starred meal is a must.
Special shout out to Ivy who joined following her 7k run with Achilles International.
Thanks to everyone who joined and put in such a great effort.
Join us for our first Group Run of 2021!
We're heading to the vast outdoor space of Victoria Park together, where the grateful Rangers team will task us with a 'litter hotspot' mission-and-a-half.
A new, small task has been added to the litter-pick: a group will be moving a large pile of gravel, and distributing it over the park...
Come and kickstart your fitness routine for the week, as we meet beforehand to run, or walk-and-jog, our way to the activity...
What you need to know
We'll be meeting inside the Royal Gate East entrance to the park, opposite The Royal Inn on the Park.
After hello's and need-to-knows, we'll divide into two groups to head to our task:
Those who want to walk/walk-and-jog will join Area Activator Laura, to enjoy a leisurely route across the park.
Those who would wish to enjoy a slightly longer run will join our Chris B for a more scenic route to the task.
- We will be working with the Parks team on every aspect of health and safety, so rest assured all bases will be covered. We will also be bringing spare gloves, hand sanitiser and anything else we consider necessary!
We will be getting our movement back on this week!!
Meeting next to Old street Station (outside Shorditch Fire station) ready to run/ walk or cycle. Alternatively meet at Hackney City farm at 7:10.
We will be moving 2k to the farm where we will get stuck into some epic GoodGyming!!
After a solid physical task we will aim to do a little fitness blast in Shorditch park. Before we move back to Old street for those who that works for.
Spaces are limited (due to task) so if you are unable to attend please remove yourself from the sign up list. Hope to see you on Tuesday!
You’ll be helping the local community and stalwarts over at Partriot Square by donning your protective gloves and getting busy with a pair of pruners.
Task: Hedge pruning to 150cm or feel free to use Emma as a reference for “shoulder height”.
As mentioned by Margaret, things have grown a bit wild of late and “throughout the pandemic the hedge has climbed to a hight that can feel inhibiting to People using the Lane. If it can be brought to shoulder hight users would feel more comfortable. The area needs a lot of maintenance and with this job done it will free us up to concentrate on many of the other tasks.”
We'll meet outside the town hall hotel and the path/lane we'll be clearing is directly at the end of the road.
Following completion of the task, we’ll head for a knees up on Stephen’s balcony nearby so bring a drink with you.
After a few drop outs to today's Community Mission, four fantastic GoodGymmers got to work pulling out weeds at Pearson St Adventure Playground.
Armed with gloves, wheelbarrows and garden forks we made light work of the nettles, bindweeds and other overgrown weeds. Ivo's expert horticultural knowledge led to us spotting a dreaded sight: Japanese knotweed. Without the adequate means to remove this weed, we notified the task owner.
We continued for an hour enjoying each others company. It turned out we had a diverse group from all different areas: Ruby from Waltham Forest, Even from Hackney, Ivo from Tower Hamlets and Dharmesh from Redbridge. Even speedily collected up the tools at the end and the task owner was very grateful.
We also discovered it was Ruby's 50th good deed. Congratulations Ruby, black tee inbound!
It was great to spend time with you all. Until the next time!
Next week will be the final session at Pearson St Adventure Playground, so don't miss it!
Please note that this community mission has been cancelled.

Homerton Grove Adventure Playground is a fantastic play area, which in normal times can accommodate up to 100 young people. Our initial job this week was to shovel a huge pile of woodchip into wheelbarrows and spread it below a zipwire.
First task accomplished, we turned to woodchipping the area under a swing, where kids will also slide down the climbing frame. At this stage, we were assisted by two playground users: a quiet but strong father, and his young son. Even also woodchipped a third area.
GoodGym is also of course about exercise, so Emma and Kim took a turn on the high swing, while Even organised a post-task walk, which happened to lead to the Elderfield pub. So we took refreshment there, discovering we all like Arlo Parks, until Emma had to hurry home to feed her favourite cat.
