☔ Rain surgeons 🌧️

Mon 16 May
Report written by Nicky Woodall

☀️19 optimistic GoodGymmers met on a sunny Monday evening, generally pretty confident that the rain had passed for the day (more on that later) 🥳

🌴We discussed our favourite trees (featuring some controversial Googling from Paul Kelly and Leanne) then participated in an ever-so-slightly different based on Chinese whispers warm up 🤔

🌤️We headed off into the sunshine towards Greenfields Garden. On arrival, the eagle-eyed among us spotted a very dark cloud on the horizon. Some of us remained optimistic that it would wait until after our session to deposit its rain 🤞

🌱Continuing this optimism, we split into three groups and set to work. One group were on compost bin duties, another group were working on the big green pile (featuring some joyous jumping by Amy) while the final group dug/scraped weeds off paths to be woodchipped 🌿

😢We were sorry to hear of the fire that had affected the garden recently and hope that the damage benches can be replaced and the shelter mended 🔨

🌧️Despite (or maybe because of) our optimism, the rain fell. And it didn't just rain, it poured. Some of us were prepared with coats/jumpers/waterproof hats (Paul Kelly) while others just got very wet. Despite the slight (and very literal) dampener, we cracked on and worked through the short(ish) and (very) sharp shower ☔

💪When the compost and green pile group had finished, Louise from the garden decided she'd really like the woodchip spreading on the cleared paths this evening. So we all joined in to make that happen. There was scraping, digging and barrowing galore and soon, the woodchip was moved and spread to make some lovely new paths 🌟

🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️That left time for a quick (and ever-so-slightly competitive) fitness game before we jogged back and stretched together. We then parted ways, heading home or to the pub to dry our soggy bottoms 🍻☕

Lots of jobs at Greenfields Garden

Mon 16 May 18:15 pm
York CVS, Denham Room, 15 Priory Street , York , YO1 6ET
Making it a more pleasant environment for everyone who uses it

Welcome to GoodGym York 🙌

🏃‍♀️🏃We're a friendly and social group who combine exercise with helping out in the local community. Every Monday we meet to get active and do a physical task to help the charities or community organisations in our city.

WHERE WE MEET 🎒 We meet at the Priory Street Centre and our usual room is the Denham Room. As you approach the front of the Centre, turn right and go to the car park area. The room we use is locked whilst we're out so you can leave your bits and bobs in there.

😷 We are asking people still to wear a face mask when entering the building to drop bags off where possible.

🚲There is cycle parking as you approach the Centre and a 10 bay pay and display car park is available behind the nursery block, to the left as you approach front of the Centre. In addition, on street parking is available on Priory Street.

TONIGHT 🌱We’re heading to Greenfields Community Garden tonight to help make it a more pleasant environment for everyone who uses it.

THE TASK 🧤 As we'll be doing various tidy up tasks in the gardens, please bring gardening gloves and a headtorch if possible.

RUNNING AND WALKING WITH US 👏GoodGym is for everyone. We welcome runners of all abilities and if the task is close enough we have a walking group too.

👍We always have a back-marker too so nobody will get left behind - no matter what your pace is.

POST-RUN SOCIAL 🍻We normally head to The Ackhorne Pub on St Martin's Lane after our run for a spot of liquid refreshment and a good chat (COVID rules-pending, obviously). Please join us!
