There are many different types of meditation yet the goal of all of them is to calm and focus the mind to the point where the meditator experiences themselves in nothing but the present moment, the Now, with nothing but one single thought in mind.

yoga talk The connection between mental training and yoga can be seen in how yoga emphasizes mindfulness and intentional muscle engagement. In yoga, visualizing movements and focusing on muscle activation, even in static poses, may lead to physical benefits similar to the mental training studies. The mental focus in yoga helps create a "mind-muscle connection," potentially enhancing strength, flexibility, and muscle control, as seen in research where mental exercises alone improved muscle strength. Yoga’s meditative aspect reinforces this connection, blending physical and mental conditioning.

We had a Goodgym Yoga special at a local Barnet House. In the ground of Avenue House Park. The house very generously gave us one of their big upstairs rooms to do yoga for the benefit of GoodGym and local people who support Stephens House and Gardens . The session was also broadcast on Zoom for those that could not attend the session. We all went for a coffee in the café after.

Details on how yoga improves vascular function, particularly through enhanced endothelial function, one of the key mechanisms by which yoga can help regulate blood pressure. The endothelium is the inner lining of blood vessels and plays a critical role in maintaining vascular health. Here’s a detailed look at the mechanisms involved:
The endothelium regulates several important functions, including: - Vasodilation and Vasoconstriction: The ability of blood vessels to widen (vasodilate) or narrow (vasoconstrict) is crucial for maintaining blood pressure. - Blood Flow: Proper endothelial function ensures smooth and efficient blood flow, reducing strain on the heart. - Inflammation and Oxidative Stress: The endothelium helps control inflammation and oxidative stress within blood vessels, both of which can contribute to hypertension and cardiovascular disease.
