Litter picking along the canal

Tue 4 May

The William Hobbayne Charity need help for an hour in this evening to help maintain land near the canal where new trees were planted a few years ago

This second group will be helping by litter picking in the area where we are cutting down overgrowth

We'll be meeting at 6pm outside the William Hobbayne Charity to grab tools and walk down to the canal.

What do you need to take part?

  • Gloves - preferably the gardening kind!
  • Hand sanitiser - it's a staple these days!
  • A mask - in case we need to pop inside or get too close

This is a great opportunity to help a charity that does so much in our local community, plus you'll be outside and making a difference with a group of awesome people!

Give a litter bit of your time.

Tue 20 Apr
Report written by Slough runner

Last night 15 of us got together to clean up Ealing Common after work.

We split into three different covid safe teams and set off; destination RUBBISH.

There has been talk recently of Litter Picking Bingo in some circles, regular litter pickers will know that there are repeat items you find (ahem, MASKS...) McDonald’s wrappers and more. Plus the comical bottle of Corona.

This week our group found a pair of ray bans; wonder what the story behind them was!?

Five bags of rubbish later and it was time for the exercise session. Well done to everyone that took part and those that made the exercise such a HIIT.

To those that snuck off to the pub early, whoever that was!? You tempted fate and low and behold “Milly that makes a mess” booked the third pub table a day early. Apologies to those that missed us, hope you enjoyed a warm evening indoors (we were v v cold.)

Join us next week for more litter picking and exercise as it hopefully warms up.

Take care and stay safe.

Lop, chop and two smoking barrows

Tue 3 Nov
Report written by Liv Parker-Scott

A chilly and beauitfully clear evening saw 13 of us out in force to help continue to clear the overgrowth and brambles at St. Mary's Church.

With lockdown 2.0 looming this was our last Tuesday evening community mission for a while. We were keen to make the most of it with one last go at getting on top of a couple of years worth of overgrowth at the back of the church garden.

It was really lovely to see a couple of new faces in the (socially distanced) crowd too, massive welcome to Marie and Jojo! Hope to see you both lots more in the not too distant future!

Here's what Marie had to say about her first session:

"Absolutely loved my first run. The running group was very thoughtful and considerate to my extremely slow pace 😋 thank you!" - Marie

With Mars beaming down on us (yes, you could clearly see Mars in the sky last night!) we all worked really hard for an hour to get as much done as possible. You could tell that Ben meant serious business when, despite the chill in the air, he stripped down to a t-shirt. We basically had to tear him away from the task!

Excellent work everyone! Hopefully we'll cross paths over lockdown, we will have some essential community missions still going ahead and we'll also have some fun fitness challenges everyone can join in with too.

Watch this space! No literally, click the link and see what's coming up in Ealing!
