Carol Anne Mclachlan
New Good Gym Newcastle Run Leader
East End Women is a Community Programme that helps Women in the North East to achieve their potential.
Each week they deliver over 1 TONNE of food to local people in Walker which is amazing! This is equivalent to 2520 meals.
Thursday is their large delivery day and they would absolutely love our help, with a variety of tasks including lifting, bagging up and general organisation. This is currently completed by one person which is a lot of hard work, and they would really appreciate some extra hands.
A long time coming but so worth it..
Carol Anne finally got her wings last night after completing her 100th good deed at the weekend, and as you can see she was happy to wear them for our Walk Talk and donate session last night.
As bars reopened their doors, she fit right in in super special fancy dress, providing us with some of my favourite GoodGym photos- please note Charlotte's embarrassed awkwardness at doing the celebratory point!
We had a super catch up, walk and best of all collected a huge bag of toiletries donated and ready for our friends at East End Women.
We love our regular catch ups and it's a great way to meet up and find out the great things coming up with GoodGym Newcastle.
I will be collecting donations on the night for our friends at East End Women foodbank and for this session I would like people to bring along donations of toiletries such as shower gel, toothpaste, shampoo and sanitary products. If you don't have these items, all donations however small are always welcome.
Hope to see you there.
Carol has just reached another level: 100 good deeds with GoodGym. That's at least 100 times when they could have easily done something easier. But they didn't, Carol has kept going and going. Helping a lot of other people and getting a bit fitter at the same time. Congratulations Carol.
We were back at Key Enterprises to finish the painting of their canteen which was started in December but we were unable to finish due to the last lock down... until now.
Key Enterprise is a fantastic charity based in North Tyneside who provide training for people with learning disabilities, mental health problems and head injuries, providing them with practical skills in areas such as bike maintenance, woodwork, metal work and cycle maintenance as well as social activities.
The team had done a great job last time and most of the old green paint was now white. Katie, Carol Anne and I gave the whole canteen a second coat of white paint and managed to get the last few remaining green sections in the top corners. Everything was looking bright and cleaner when we left.
Well done to Carol Anne for reaching 100 good deeds!
Come along to lend a hand with a big painting project at Key Enterprises.
Key Enterprises provide supported activities from their base in North Tyneside to adults with learning disabilities, mental health problems or acquired brain injuries. Through their involvement with KE, individuals develop practical skills within working departments whilst building confidence and a sense of community.
Key Enterprises have asked for our help in painting their large canteen area. Social distancing is guaranteed, and PPE will be provided, but please feel free to wear your own mask.
Feel free to come along for the whole mission or drop in as you please.
We had a lovely morning litter picking in Exhibition Park. Thankfully the rain actually stayed away! I was joined by Carol Anne, Liz, Louise, Kate and Charlotte.
The bin bags that I had picked up turned out to be absolutely huge (as seen in the photo with Carol Anne!) There was so much rubbish about, that we could have carried on for hours. So many bottles and cans.
It was lovely to be thanked by a member of the public in the park for our efforts.
(The award for the best find of the day actually goes to Charlotte and Kate who found a Halloween wig)
Join us on a litter pick on Exhibition Park and help keep this local space tidy so everyone can enjoy it.
Meet at the gates in Exhibition Park next to the skate park at 11am (or just message us if you are coming later)
Please bring your own gloves. Bin bags will be provided.
See you there!
We had a really lovely evening on the Quayside, picking up lots of litter. It didn't rain as forecast which was great!
It was brilliant to be joined by Carol Anne, Liz (first ever GoodGym good deed!!) , Eleanor and Louise.
We managed to pick up 5 bags full of litter. We had a great meander along Skinnerburn Road (where we found lots of bottles, cans and McDonalds packaging) and then headed back along the Cycle path.
This evening was really enjoyable, lots of laughing, chatting and switching off from everything else.
Highlights of what we found tonight included a random plastic pink pig (see the photo) and an empty Gin bottle.
(Go and give Liz a cheer/welcome!)
Come along and join in with a litter pick and help make Newcastle a cleaner and tidier place
Meet outside the Wetherspoons on the Newcastle Quayside (not related to the task but just a good/easy place to meet!) Meet around the back, closest to the footpath along the Tyne.
- We can split into small groups as needed
- Bin bags will be provided but please bring your own gloves.
- It might be best to wear Hi Viz clothing and bring a head torch along if you have one (even better, bring along a litter picker if you have one!)
