5 Goodgym runners joined Amanda at The Chiswick Flower Market at the end of the second market of the year to help dismantle the set up safely & quickly.
We started by taking down the 8 market banners & Covid safety & parking signage from around the site. Then onto the full body workout provided by picking up bollards & barriers from across the whole market & returning them to their collection point in Old Market Place. Having worked up a bit of sweat we cooled things down by removing the bunting from Devonshire Rd. Being fanned by flags as they fluttered to the ground, bringing to a close the end of another successful day & a very efficient mission completed by team Goodgym!

Chiswick Flower market is a not-for-profit community event who have asked for our help closing down the market after it finishes. They need a hand removing signage, taking down bunting and litter picking at the site.
Bring your own gloves and sanitiser if you can, and enjoy a lovely afternoon mission outside supporting the community!
Amanda will be your point of contact, and you'll be able to find her market HQ. If you have problems finding the group, Amanda can be reached on 07943029754
Come and join us for our first social event of the year, which will be both active and indulgent.
We'll take the overground to Chingford (1236 from Bethnal Green train station, 1240 from Hackney Downs) and then walk for an hour though the ancient Epping Forest to the Holy Innocents Church in the heart of the forest, where we will enjoy afternoon tea in the churchyard, where they have lashings of homemade cake
What you need to know
Please note that the departure station is Bethnal Green overground station in Three Colts Lane E2 6JL and NOT Bethnal Green underground station.
You'll also need cash for afternoon tea (but it's cheap... 50p for a tea and £2 for homemade cake!). Dogs are welcome (I'll be bringing Cleo and Sherlock), and feel free to bring friends.
Kingston upon Thames
Please note that this community mission has been cancelled.
Continuing on from last Sunday's good work, we are at St. John the Evangelist again. They need hands to help finish paint the fence on the outside of the church.
Plenty of space for social distance as we work. Paint has been arranged to be left in the porch at the church already!
Should be a great upper body workout, some might say simply DIVINE!
Task owner will be Mark and if you need to contact him on the morning then 077307 99609 is the best number 😊
Bring any gloves you may wish to wear for yourself and a mask in case indoors is needed but NOTE : This is an outdoor task and no opportunity this time for indoors should it rain. I have spoken with the task owner and a meeting is happening in the church at that time so fingers crossed and some prayers of course that we see some consistent sunshine (surely it's about time!!)
Garden clearance and restoration. Time for a complete overhaul of the garden at Brenda Road for the benefits of the residents living there. Please note that there may be vulnerable people living at this address.
Round 3 of a community project supported by the council that needs some good ol' labour to make the difference.
This phase is the brick laying phase to put the finishing touches to work carried out on the previous task!
Those who have attended in the past have done a sterling job and the task owner is so grateful and delighted. Recognising we are not trades people and appreciating our enthusiasm he is happy for us to help with this phase which is great as I heard some of you were asking to give it a go
Space for 6 is the advice but please bring own gloves, face masks and some antibac.
Matt will be on site to meet you and best number if you need on route is 07785 715060
Sure you will do a great job and there be a chance for more thanks and mortar I imagine!
Get Rid Of And Donate (GROAD) do amazing work making use of unused STUFF, donated to them by the public. We've previously helped them pack Christmas presents and toys for local kids and packed and distributed bags of essentials for rough sleepers.
They understandably have a lot of stock, covering projects for vulnerable families and refugees, so have asked for our help to sort their weekly stock intake.
The task is at St Faith's Church Hall, near North Dulwich station and we need 3 people. Andrea will be there to meet you and show you what needs doing.
Please bring a mask as the task will be inside 🤿
Please note that this community mission has been cancelled.
This is a very unusual opportunity! On Sunday May 30th there will be a unique water-based fundraiser and we have been asked to help.
The event is to raise funds for Brent Knoll & Watergate Co-operative Trust, two SEND schools in our area. People will be invited to swim various distances in the lake at Beckenham Place Park, raising sponsorship money for the schools. The event is taking place at day-break, so volunteers will be required to arrive at the park very early!
There are a number of roles, including:
- stewarding swimmers (lifeguards will be in place, so this is just an ushering role)
- helping caterers to bring breakfast to the swimmers
- making up goody bags (and handing these, and certificates, to swimmers)
- directing people from the car park to the lake
- litter-picking/tidying up after the event
Things to consider: this is a very early start, so you need to be able to make your own way to the lake in Beckenham in the early hours of the morning (maybe we could buddy people up to cycle/walk/run together from different directions). It's likely to be cold at that time, so you will need to dress accordingly, as you will be standing around. The event will be COVID-safe, so you will need to bring a mask, hand gel and to adhere to the rules in place at this time.
If you want to take part, please sign up, then we can assign specific roles nearer the time, depending on what you prefer to do.
Join this local club's Green Team Volunteering session to help with grounds and club maintenance.
- Please remember to bring your own gloves
- If sharing tools please wipe down between uses
- Adhere to social distsncing measures at all times
The grounds might be muddy, so make sure to wear appropriate footwear - wellies recommended .
Facemarks are needed for anyone that wants to go inside the buildings to use the toilets.
We'll meet outside the clubhouse at the top of the track.
By this point we will hopefully be beyond rule of 6 restrictions and can meet as a larger group outdoors. What better way to celebrate than a training run at Valentines park (flexible on distance and pace to suit you) followed by a classic Goodgym picnic.
On this occasion we will also be doing some very scientific taste testing to determine who tastes better: Colin or Cecil the Caterpillar.
We will provide some cake and it would be nice if each person could bring a small snack to share with the group.
The meeting point for this session will be at the cafe in Valentines park. Hope to see you there!
