Where do we be-GIN when there is Fog on the Tyne

Newcastle Report written by Newcastle runner

Thank you to Aimee with the pun suggestion.

Thank you to all involved tonight, with a team effort of leading the task.

We were about to leave base without our bin bags and litter pickers. We quickly realised and headed out down to the quayside.

We picked up a steady stream of litter and filled our bags. From fire assembly signs to Gin cans and paper straws.

Charlotte was able to capture this beautiful picture of the millennium bridge, when the fog had lifted.

All are welcome and please join us for the bake sale on Saturday 3rd December, in aid of East End Women food bank: 10:00 - 13:00 - Stepney Bank Stables.

What is one of your favourite things about Goodgym?

Spades of Fun

Newcastle Report written by Aimee (she/her)

Todays task with urban green in Iris Brickfield park was edging edging and more edging. A park user had commented to Urban green ranger Maddie that the path edges were becoming over grown so she had started edging them and this is what we continued.

This involved cutting back the grass which had growth over the path and restoring the path to it original width and making it look neat and tidy. It was hard work digging out the over grown grass, shoveling it into the wheelbarrow, dumping it in the woods and weeping the path clean after.

We had a quick quick tea break after an hour we saw a nice rainbow. We finished off after the break o both side where equal. You could really see the difference and hopefully park users will too.

Look out for future missions in the parks if you want to get involved in our regular missions with Urban Green.

Amy Brew done a 6 month mission streak.

Amy just completed a six month streak of doing missions. That’s so many bags of garden rubbish cleared and jobs done to help someone out and put a smile on their face. Give Amy a cheer to encourage them to keep up the good work.

Saturday Superstars

Newcastle Report written by Anji Andrews (she/her)

Paul hot-footed to Urban Green at Iris Brickfield Park straight from parkrun this morning. I think the phrase is "parkrun-fresh"

Paul met Amy and Sara for a few hours of upper body-busting chopping and clearing in the park with Task Owner superstar Mike.

As you can see from the during/after pics, a great space was cleared by the footpath making it a safer space for people to use and access. A job so well done that he forgot to take a group photo!

Well done all, we will be back helping Urban Green Newcastle in December so watch this space.

Hedge FUNd

Newcastle Report written by Anji Andrews (she/her)

The rain held off as a fab five got to work on another Saturday with Urban Green Newcastle.

Almost all attending today's community mission came straight from a parkrun showing what goodness can happen on a Saturday morning!

The task today was to cut back hedges to fence-level for safety reasons, giving better visibility for park users. The before and after photos show the big difference the group were able to make in just 90 minutes!

We will be back with Urban Green in a few weeks time.
