Thistle while you work

Sat 2 Jul
Report written by Bethan Critchley

Five GoodGymers met at Ravenscourt park this morning to help out the Friends of the Walled Gardens at their monthly session. We were back to the usual task of removing bindweed today, albeit in a much more densely-packed bed… despite lots of soft greenery, we still managed to find a few thistles in there (and definitely came off second best!)

Chat flowed throughout the task as usual. Perhaps the most hilarious moment was our seeming complete lack of sense of direction as we tried to point in the direction of Gunnersbury park to show Ita, newbie to the Hammersmith area, which direction it was in. After lots of laughing, and a tad too much staring at the sun, we got there!

An hour later, we tidied up our piles of bindweed and called it a day, heading towards the garden centre café. Great job team, and hopefully see you again soon; see what's coming up here.

How many Goodgymmers does it take to bag a bin bag? Three apparently!

Tue 28 Jun
Report written by Jonathan

Four goodgymmers made their way to Gwendwer Gardens on Tuesday night to help out with some weeding and pruning of a lush and dense garden.

Ita was on her first mission with us and we hope she had a great time and we hope to see her again! She fit right in and cracked on like a seasoned goodgymmer ripping up weeds.

We also helped with some pruning, tackling Ivy that had overgrown onto the paths and some old branches on a thriving bush.

John, the community manager, also supplied me and biscuits with plums (or so he thoughts). Well it tasted like a plum and I haven't experienced any poisioning symptoms so far so seems like a great way to harvest plum pits!

Congrats to Ita for coming to her first session and Amy for her second and a massive thanks to our veteran Biscuits for coming along and being such a welcoming member of the team.

Only snag (literally) came at the end when a couple of spiky bits of foliage caused not one, but two bags to split on us, needing a combined effort from three goodgymmers to bag it all up.

A good evening and we should be back at Gwendwr gardens soon!

Gardening at Gwendwr Gardens

Tue 28 Jun 19:00 pm
Gwendwr Gardens, Gwendwr Road, London, W14 9BG
Maintaining a green space for all to enjoy

We'll be at Gwendwr Gardens this tuesday, helping out John and the other volunteers with a variety of tasks to keep the park a lovely area for all to enjoy!

Please remember to bring gloves to the mission as it is likely to get dirty and have some water and sunscreen on you as we'll be outside and at this time of year it can be easy to get dehyrdrated and burnt without realising!

If we have time, we may do a spot of fitness afterwards over at Brook Green.

Mission starts at 7:00pm and I'll be leading a short 1-2km run from Brook Green at 6:30pm down to Gwendwr if others would like to join.

Thanks all, see you there!
