Find out about GoodGym TaskForce

It was a case of Wood-Gym this week as the Goodgymers headed down to Glamis Adventure Playground in Shadwell to shift a large pile of wood to a safer part of the playground.

Surely a candidate for coolest playground in London, Glamis Adventure Playground is a community supported project that lets children take risks while playing in a safe, creative environment. Around since the 60s, the playground was closed in the 90s due to lack of funding, but the local community convinced the council to reopen it.

In what resembled a giant game of Jenga, our task required us to shift a large pile of wood a few metres away to a more secluded area. Awkward shaped pieces of wood with rusty nails sticking out made it interesting, but we managed to complete the task in less than half the allocated time.

"Awkward shaped pieces of wood with rusty nails sticking out made it interesting, but we managed to complete the task in less than half the allocated time."

This gave us time to tackle another large pile of wood, this time large logs and stumps destined for the seating and play area. For our fast work, we were rewarded with "free play" for a couple of minutes, which we gleefully accepted.

With run leader Mark confidently proclaiming "Now that you know what we can do..." to Christine of the Playground, and Goodgymer Alison promising to find a child so she can come back, we headed back to the Arch.
