This task was a first for us where three community groups were supporting each other in tackling the rubbish in one of our most popular parks.

We originally asked Slough Anti Litter Group if they wanted to do a task with us, this then evolved to us getting in on the act with a task that Slough Rugby Club had asked them to do.. and hey presto! A community collaboration was created!

We met at Slough Rugby Club car park where Tirza from Slough Anti Litter handed out the kit and instructions. The Rugby tots and parents headed onto the field to cover the pitch area. Whilst the other two teams headed along the footpaths to try to clear out all the deeply embedded litter in the bushes!

We tried our best

With a four strong team today we worked together whilst chatting and picking. It was Sandy birthday too! Well done Sandy for coming out on a birthday task!

There was so much litter in just one section of the overgrowth area that we did wonder who would win this match - us or the brambles! I’m pleased to say we were the winners!

With it being so windy still, it was almost impossible to keep the litter bags open but with a two prong method of one person holding and other person passing forward the litter it worked a treat!

Our main finds were:-

  • Pair of crutches;

  • Number plates;

  • Plenty of wet wipes;

  • Plastics of all types;

  • Cans and bottles;

  • Tirza found a crisp packed dated 2010.

And to finish off our one hour of picking (5 bagfuls btw!), we had some scrummy birthday cupcakes

We left after one hour whilst the rest of the team carried on. There was already a huge pile of filled bags by the time we left! Can't imagine how much it will tally to in the end!
