How GoodGym helped Sandy feel at home in Slough again
Our session tonight was to help out at the vaccine Centre as they had added in a slot that was perfectly timed for us!
However, with the high rate in Covid numbers over the Christmas period, many people have been unable to attend their booster shots, therefore the shifts have been very quiet.
Having had the heads up that it may be a slow slog we decided to still come in and see if the center needed any other help, then had a back up plan of litter picking if it all went Pete Tong!
Shot in the arm .. and your to blame … you give love a bad name
Surprisingly there was a steady flow of people wanting their shot of medicine. We had young guns to overseas residents to those just coming in for numero uno.
The 90 minutes flew by tonight. Well done to everyone for giving your blue Monday a purpose and helping others to #getvaccinated
Next week we are over in Britwell helping out at St Georges Church - hope to see you there

January's pickings..let’s not mask the effort.
Week 2 into January and we were raring to go! An old favourite of ours is to do a litter pick at Wexham Park Hospital. But with the hospital going into tighter restrictions on external visitors, I agreed with Task Owner Mike, that we would bring our own litter pickers and bin bags so that we didn't have a need to enter the hospital - We like to be part of the solution and not the pollution!
So we met at The King Wexham and after a brief brief and blood flowing warm up, we set off up the road with our pickers in hand.
It was good to have Joe back in the team, sadly his university course night clashes with our GoodGym night, but tonight he was able to run our course instead..
On arrival, we set off to work as one team in #onedirection. For a change there was so much litter on the hospital grounds tonight. Plenty of masks, beer cans and cigarette packets… even the off lateral flow test! Luckily it was negative
Around 40 minutes later we were done. Two bagfuls collected! And time to head back home.
Thank you Sandy and Joe for the company tonight.
Next week we are meeting at our task location - Salthill vaccine Centre to do a vaccine volunteer shift.
Its that time of year....Christmas Drinks! But in January as we know how depressing that month can be!
Edit of venue!
We’ve changed the venue to The Boatman as a few ppl are having dinner there before the drinks
Drinks is from 8pm onwards .., see you there x
Back in 2022 to help our local NHS!
We will meet outside The King Wexham pub on Shaggy Calf Lane and run up 2km to the hospital. We will then do a litter pick of the grounds before heading back.
Please do not park in the pub car park as they will fine you.
Any residential street nearby is fine
Please remember to be visible with reflective clothing or night lights.
And just like that we've run into a New Year with exciting events ahead of us.
As per every January we have the January Challenge to look forward to in order to make our Motivation Monday's even more ... motivating!
This year we are tasked with completing 2000km and 80 Good Deeds! Best get those trainers on (hope my feet didn't put on any Christmas weight!).
We ended 2021 with having completed 1078 good deeds and over 11, 000 km's accomplished! But we are now 'out with the old and in with the New Year so let's smash this target and make 2022 our best year ever.
S'miles all round
Sut, Jean and I met at Sainsbury's in order to get a longer distance in (2 miles each way), and ran down to meet Pam and Sandy at The Activity Centre. We hadn't seen Jean in a few weeks and it was lovely to catch up with all the stories, which always leafs us with s'miles all round.
Our task tonight was to collect up all the leaves and fallen debris from the grounds at Parvaaz. The last time we did this task (in early December, we picked up over 15 bagfuls of leaves!). Could we beat this tonight? Let's see what happened..
The team tonight comprised off:
Sandy - Leaf it to me - Dhaliwal,
Sutyee - Leaf me alone - Pang,
Jean - I cannot be-leaf it - Watts,
Pam - I'm taking a leaf of faith - Banga,
Manjit - Take it or leaf it - Birk.
So good to see everyone happily digging into the task. We spent around 45 minutes scraping the leaves, creating little piles, bagging them then disposing the bags in the waste area ready to be composted (without the plastic bags of course!).
What a re-leaf to get it all done in time.
Thanks for coming along to our first session of 2022...here are the listed tasks (more to be added soon)
The last time we went to Parvaaz we collected 12 huge bin bags of leaves!
Let’s see what we manage to do this time!
Welcome to our first run of 2022!!
We’ve had a little break over December and now it’s time to put those trainers back on and see what 2022 brings us!
I’ve put the meeting place at Sainsbury on Uxbridge Rd which makes it a 2 mile run (or 3.5km), however if you’d prefer a shorter run then please let me know and I’ll tell you where to meet up
This is a ready to run session. We will meet at 6:30pm and leave by 6:40 after the brief and warm up.
It’s still dark outside so please be visible with bright reflective clothing or running lights
Please also bring your gardening gloves
Baby it’s coald outside
So did you finish? Did you get your daily km’s in? Did you do more than your partner? Whichever way, well done! It’s not easy going out everyday pounding the pavements especially this time of year but well done to you all for getting out and doing it (even if it wasn’t the mileage you thought you’d put in).
It’s the most wonderful time for a beer
I see Ricky and Claire got in a sneaky beer after a 10k.. wohoo!
I had a lovely run, walk, chat with Jean to Eton where she gave me the two finger salute (all meant with love.. and the wrong way round hahah).
Helen, Claire and I got side-tracked at Thames Valley Athletics Centre with a few tik toks! But still managed to get our km’s in.
We really were in the spirit of Christmas
Did you forget your Christmas elfie
Of course we didn’t! Plenty of snaps from Pam, Jen, Nisha and Sut as well as Roisin, Keira and Claire!
I hope you enjoyed your extra 12 days of Christmas The GG remix challenge - all in order to make more santamental memories to take into 2022
You can put your feet up now and enjoy a mince pie or two.
I look forward to seeing you all in 2022!
We know December can be a bleh month so this little training session is aimed to keep you motivated at the end of another tough year..
This challenge starts on December 1st and ends on December 12th
There are 12km to choose from
1km, 2km, 3km, 4km all the way to 12km
The aim is that you run or walk your chosen km everyday from 1st till 12th December
You can pair up with another GGer or family/friend and split your km’s with them
Eg.. if I chose 12km and dragged Nisha into doing this challenge with me we can do 6km each day or one day I do 10km and she does 2km and so on… each pair can decide their split between them as long as they do their total km’s each day
So if you are keen to get involved sign up and let me know your chosen km number
You know I need photos!! So don’t forget to send me them via WhatsApp or email
Happy training 😊
