A few GoodGym members came together to help a community day set up by Earthwatch scientists. In February 2022 Earthwatch and Barnet Council came together to create a Tiny Forest just off the North circular in barnet. On that wet cold day, 100 people and two schools planted 600 trees in the area not much bigger than a tennis court. It is now looking green and healthy, despite the summer drought.

It is hoped that this new method of planting provides a better way of growing trees in an urban environment. The data generated today will hopefully inform future plantings. Early indications suggest that the trees are grow 20% quicker using this planting method. We helped take measurements, including carbon capture, biodiversity surveys and soil analysis. ( including a nice picture of some courting butterflies.) this data has been uploaded to the Earthwatch portal. We also did a bit of weeding to keep the trees strong and healthy. Great to meet the Earthwatch scientists and local people visiting and helping out. There will be another event this Sunday.
