The first squat is the deepest

Today I met up with Stephen for a Sunday morning mission for Miss A that was supposed to comprise both indoor and outdoor elements (moving a filing cabinet and doing some weeding). Unfortunately the forecast was for heavy rain, and while it was only spitting when we arrived, we were both keen to crack on with the task at hand.

However, after introducing ourselves to Miss A, it turned out that Lady Luck (a.k.a. Miss A) was on our side as she shifted the focus of today’s mission away from the garden to instead relate wholly to the filing cabinet. This was a change I could get behind, particularly when Miss A has FOUR cats that could potentially be played with at any moment (one of them being extremely friendly – see picture of newly nicknamed Cat Stevens with Stephen)

To accomplish the move, we needed to make some space upstairs for the cabinet to move to, to clear the area downstairs to allow us to take the drawers (comprising sealed paperwork) out of the cabinet and to relocate the cabinet (and drawers) upstairs separately.

This was relatively straightforward to accomplish. There were a couple of instances in which we had to utilise all of our KerPlunk skills while clearing some space to ensure that other piles of paperwork and boxes didn’t come crashing down around us, but overall we were pretty incident free. We also remembered to lift using our legs, which meant that we each did some epic squats when lifting the drawers off the floor. The first squat of the day certainly cuts the deepest!

Once the cabinet was upstairs, Stephen had the great idea of switching the position of the moved filing cabinet with another filing cabinet in the room in order to avoid blocking a window. We did this before reinserting the drawers, which meant it was accomplished pretty quickly.

Primary job done, we asked if Miss A had anything else she’d like us to look at, and she revealed that she needed a salt cap removed from her dishwasher. As the only one of the two of us with dishwasher experience (“that was a great year”), Stephen tackled this while I took some photos for the report. Miss A had some amazingly interesting items dotted around her house – it was a veritable Aladdin’s cave, complete with lamp! (I did rub it; no genie)

We also reorganised some of the boxes left in the downstairs area, ultimately refilling the space left by the filing cabinet, before settling down for a brief chat with Miss A. I say, “brief chat”. Truthfully I have no idea how long it was as, once again, I tuned out of the conversation to play with an animal (this time Cat Stevens). I’m pretty sure we talked about how long Miss A had been a user of GoodGym (a while) and about cemeteries. I’m even more sure that Cat Stevens is precious and must be protected at all costs (just not my precious). Finally we took our leave of Miss A so that we could scurry away before the rain got any heavier.
