The Camden GoodGym group braved a Summer deluge on their task this week- making the short run to a communal garden in Somers Town.

It was a great task for us to do to. A local resident of a block of flats was getting fed up with the amount of rubbish that was being thrown into the garden and wanted to give it a major spruce up. Its really great for us to help out in the area- Somers Town has become our home over the last few months so its really nice to help out the local community.

Armed with picks, gloves and rubbish sacks Team GG dug around in the hedgerows- pulling out children's shoes, lion bar wrappers from the early 1990's, Lilt Cans from the Second World War and scaffolding poles dating from the early 15th century ( History was never my strong point). We broke into two teams and had a bit of a competition to see who could fill up the most bags. Though they took victory Cambria, James and Marina's bags did appear to be crammed with an excessive amount of foliage....We gave them the benefit of the doubt.

Here's a report from first time atteendee Cambria

My dragon boat team (www.typhoon-dbc.com) decided to join for our first Good Gym session tonight. We had the best time! After meeting the team and warming up at the community centre, Shaun took us for a short jog to a nearby community garden. A few of the residents were there to greet us. We divided into two teams, geared up with gloves, brooms and shovels, and got to work clearing the area. We made pretty quick work, clearing brush and filling two bin bags of rubbish. We said our goodbyes to the residents and continued on on our jog into Regent's Park. Shaun, ever cheerful and encouraging, led us on a interval run through the park. We jogged back to the community centre, and ended with a warm down. Shaun was such a great coach, showing us how to stretch and encouraging us to come back for another session. We had an amazing time, made some new friends, and are looking forward to our next Good Gym session! :)
