12 runners ran to clear a garden for an older person, shift some earth and put up a pergola for two community gardens.

"Large woollen hats"

Anyone with a friend with access to a thermometer will have known that yesterday's run was HOT. The weather at the time of the end of the working day did not get cooler, on this run fleeces, scarfs, thermal underwear and large woollen hats were unnecessary.

On the last day of June, GoodGym gave to me, three separate runs - two active tasks and a mission in Hackney.

Not breaking Curve few

The wonderful and well-oriented Stephanie Blundell led the charge to Dalston Curve Garden - a curvaceous planting area in Dalston, where she and her trusty GoodGym compatriots shifted a serious pile of earth from the entrance to where it could better benefit the plants.

Fast-man David Misstear and stalwart Sarah Moore ran with great accuracy to help clear the garden of an older Hackney resident. They made good progress; the progress can be observed in the photographic documentation above.

"definitions of things"

A third group ran to Daubeney Fields; a very good place in which very good things have happened. A carpark transformed into a blossoming and high-quality plantery. This time we had to construct a pergola. If you are person who enjoys definitions of things, please find a definition here:

"A pergola, arbor, or arbour (see spelling differences) is a garden feature forming a shaded walkway, passageway, or sitting area of vertical posts or pillars that usually support cross-beams and a sturdy open lattice, often upon which woody vines are trained."

The pergola had 7 struts and was harder to put together than we thought. Olivia was an up the steps kind of person. Carly was an expert adjuster. Bill and Ivo held the thing upright with Elaine. Everyone had ideas. It was a bit like the crystal maze, but not exactly. Probably Aztec zone. A pearl of an arbour was erected from heavy pieces of wood, leaving some people suffering from plank-ache Tuesday.

The three teams ran back to E5 Bakery, our new home, and stretching happened. On the way back from the longer Pergola run we concentrated on trying to push our hips forward with our glutes going up a hill. Worth thinking about.

3 tasks done in the heat. Well done all.
