Party Animals I: Afterparty

Kash and I rocked up to Ms S's house a little worse for wear, one of us had had a late party night and the the other just needed a bit more sleep. The result was the same, but we both made it out of bed and to the task, maybe with a tiny bit less energy than usual.

Ms S had lots of little tasks for us to do, but the biggest problem was the ivy growing over from her neighbours' garden which was standing like a bouncer, blocking access to the back stage area (aka garage). We took a look at it and thought it should definitely be possible to clear around 10 metres in the hour and a half that we had.

We had been give a couple of pairs of shears, so we set to work chopping away and the vines growing over our heads and under our feet. One thing that our health and safety assessment hadn't taken into account was that working under the vines meant falling debris and 15 minutes into the task, Kash was out of action with dust in her eyes and the remaining party make up running down her face. Luckily Kash comes prepared for anything and had a bottle of water and some tissues stashed in her bag and, after a bit of first aid, bounced back up and resumed cutting the ivy.

We cleared up the thin branches going over the top and trailing vines on the ground. Some areas were a bit more challenging though, we found some branches that were thicker than our fingers and one point that was bigger than my fist! We did what we could with the tools we had and luckily we found that even the thicker branches could be snapped with our hands. Also, there was a lot of work needed over our heads, so Kash and I took turns and getting on our portable party stage to reach the highest branches.

By the end of the mission, we'd filled 3 and a half green waste bags and that was all ivy and left the path to the garage clear. We headed off to line our stomachs with food before the our next party...
