Would it truly be a mysterious mystery run if the run leaders had a dead certain plan what was going to happen? Well, let’s see:

As part of the new data protection rules we were not allowed to advertise which Chris was leaving on the website, so 2 extra Chris' volunteered to protect her identity ;)

To get the mysterious senses fired up, we warmed up in the rain with 2 group rounds of yoga sun salutations, led by kinetic Kat and narrated by soothing-voice Steve. As the sun gods watched in awe, the rain let up.

Having pleased Helios and the confused runners, we set off via Endcliffe park only to find shelter under a tree next to a waterfall, which would function as our next mystery trigger. The mystery was that the key plan to our run was group engagement in the form of adhoc rotating run leading and navigation from all runners. A participatory approach also known as mysting.

Thus, speedy Sam skilfully led us through Endcliffe woods, past Bee’s nest (or was it wasps?) where we – to the surprise of all participants – indeed where introduced to Ben the botanical Bear. Where akin to Goldilocks, Chris found her perfect bear resting point.

Afterwards, archaeology-enthusiast Andrew led us to the oldest tree stump in Sheffield (not one of Amey's victims). Guessing the age of this old fossil, smart Steve got closest to the actual 300 million years. We posed for a picture and made it look as if we were undecided of the proceedings, in reality of course every step was carefully planned by keen Kat and creative Chris. Guiding the group gently towards the idea of continuing to run a bit farther, Steve was let to believe he would choose the route, which to the delight of everyone let us to yet another pre-planned highlight of the route, a double rainbow.

After a moment of admiration for the exceptional planning of this mysterious run, chirpy Caroline suggested including Strava segments even offering to sacrifice some of her reward winning secret segments. The cemetery segment seemed perfect for the occasion, especially because it had featured in super Steve’s last segment hunt and was therefore a good opportunity to up our latest performance. Knackered from this exceptional effort, kinesthetic Kat came up with the idea of a post run group human word art project to celebrate charming Chris. The principle ingredient: Chris (3/8 runners).

We finished the mysterious run with 2 more yoga salutations, before heading off to the Lescar, where the group reclined for more great company, drinks and food :)
