TORCHES! REMEMBER TORCHES!!
...is what my post-it reminder tells me...
*Gardening gloves - tick! Water bottle - tick! Many clothes (if chilly) /// not many clothes (if not chilly) - tick! *
And then - in thick marker covered in luminescent highlighting - is my own luminescent note-to-self. My method for remembering the things my leaky brain forgets.
The gloves went in first as I packed on Wednesday morning - then the bottle - followed by the not many clothes - and then...then went in the torch.
Steve shouted: IT'S SOLSTICE ALEX
I replied: BUT THERE COULD BE AN ECLIPSE
Anyway, onto our evening!!
We started in the heat on Wednesday. Our friendly group in red, stood chatting and connecting as we eased into our time together, and then we got to talking about carpets in bathrooms and it got real nasty. Someone even said savages.
Then we got moving, which we did with a game which may or may not have been called 'bathroom carpets'.
And then we really got moving, and we took a steady pace down and over to the lovely Hervey Road Sports Ground. Set just behind the bustle of Shooter's Hill Road, the ground is a peaceful expanse, and it's being made more peaceful and connected through the special work of Richard, Annie, and the Friends of Hervey Road team. Think wild flowers, insect cities, and wonderfully curated spaces of wild to rest in and enjoy.
Our group got to watering, weeding, caring, and soil-inverting (which is great for wild flowers), and we did so whilst shooting breezes and sharing stories.
Summer evenings with our group always feel so special, and it was a treat to be with you all on Wednesday - thank you for your work and time - and see you all soon :)
