Most volunteers and runners were standing by very early this morning to await the announcement of the pre-race course check. One of the seasoned volunteers would go and walk along the route early in the morning to check if it was safe to begin the event. There were a lot of worries because the cold weather and last night's addition of sleet and ice raised concerns that the course would be too dangerous to use today.

The course was approved as being safe, and so today's parkrun could go ahead.

35 very brave juniors came out in the cold and icy fields this morning to run. There were 24 volunteers today making the event happen, which is near the bare minimum amount of volunteers needed to put on the event safely. Never assume that a small parkrun in terms of numbers would mean a small number of volunteers. This just goes to show the value that volunteering can have on the community.

Three of these juniors ran a personal best today, and three juniors also collected a milestone wristband.

I was doing the role of scanning today, this is the part when a runner has finished that records both their wristband and token barcode in order to collect their timing data. This then gets submitted and recorded on the results part of the Cardiff Junior parkrun page.
