On Monday evening, Area Activator Simon met up with Katie and Alice at Elizabeth House Food Hub for one of our first Goodgym group runs in the light! We took the opportunity to run through Highbury Fields on our way over to The Rose Bowl Youth Club in Canonbury (not usually a possibility in the dark).

Upon our arrival, we bumped into Benedict and Nikki just outside the centre, and we made our way in. Dawn, the coordinator at the Rose Bowl was thrilled to see us, and had a range of tasks available for us! Benedict and Alice were taken to the newly renovated upper deck area (a potential summer party venue for the youth group), and set to varnishing a collection of wooden benches (a continuation of our task 2 weeks ago). It was amazing to see what a difference a few layers of varnish and some thorough sanding can make to a collection of old benches- literally look like new!

Nikki and Katie helped out with building three large wooden tables (donated from a former office space), by screwing the legs onto the new frames. They did a top job of making sure that these legs were secure and the whole structure was nicely balanced.

Our final touches for the evening involved moving a collection of old folding painters tables away, and setting up the youth club's media centre (3 desktop computers and a PS4 console) on the newly constructed tables. It was wonderful to be able to see the whole plan come together over the course of 45 minutes!

We waved Goodbye to Dawn, and jogged together back from Canonbury and back towards Highbury, with each of our runners peeling off to make their way home. Top work everyone!

Next Monday, we will be running to Thornhill Square Gardens (just off Caledonian Road). Anna and the local residents of one of the largest green spaces in Islington love setting us some composting, wheelbarrowing and bulb planting tasks. It'll be great fun!

Afterwards, we will be planning to run back to Elizabeth House Food Hub, and up the road to Someday Canteen opposite Finsbury Park underground station. Excellent pizzas and refreshments (vegan options too).
