Unbefreeze-able weather!

It was a beautiful sunny evening, quite a change from this morning's snow! Amy and Juli arrived first, Juli having run uphill most of the way. So what better way to stay warm whilst waiting for the others to arrive than by running up another hill!? Not just any hill mind, according to Strava, this hill is 'the only hill in Maidenhead' and Amy and Juli are now both on the segment leaderboard!

The best at Quest

Speaking of leaderboards, when the group were all together we took a moment to present Matt and Juli with their medals from GoodGym's Mad March Quest. Both ran to an impressive 65 different locations in RBWM during March to answer questions about the local area set by our Quizmaster James. Juli was the overall winner, so we also presented her with a book about Maidenhead's history, which was kindly donated by Maidenhead's Big Read.

Allot(ment) to see and do...

It was great to welcome Rich and Sani back to the allotment for the first time since our launch in Feb 2020, and lovely to see the looks on their faces as they drank in all the changes: new beds, new benches, new guttering, new polycarbonate covers on one of the raised beds, and lots of new life in the shape of raspberry canes, the walnut tree, orderly rows of onions, and broad beans, tiny figs starting to form on the freshly re-potted fig tree, new lavender plants, and beautiful tulips in bloom. It was also a pleasure to be able to introduce Amanda to this gem of a place for the first time.

Sue had given us a clear list of jobs to do and we managed to tick them all off within the hour: watering and filling water butts with the hose, weeding one of the raised beds and the herb trugs, shifting stones and some big builders bags full of soil, and widening the bed nearest the car park. Tick tick tick tick. Well done team!

Summit's wrong here...everyone wants to do hills and squats!

As the sun had set and the temperature was dropping, we waved Juli off for her return run and hot dinner and the rest of us headed into the adjacent Boyn Grove Park for some more hills. We did a lap of the park to warm up and then ran up and down 'the only hill in Maidenhead' until we were all fit to drop. Having conquered the summit once, Sani decided to do an incredible 100 squats and cheered us on from the top. When Amy came up for the last time she was greeted by Sani, Rich and Amanda all squatting in unison - such a happy sight!

Gin-uinely the coolest leggings ever....

As always the conversation flowed like water from a hose (or should we say gin from a bottle?), covering Junior Parkrun to running buggies and plenty of non-running related topics in between. While we were cooling down and stretching, we even learned that Sani has a pair of gin and tonic inspired leggings printed with bottles, glasses and botanicals - wowsers trousers!
