Kash and Sevan went for their first shift at the Felix Project today. They were given an induction that was detailed, but pretty straightforward on how to pick a food list from the warehouse.

Next, they were given what seemed to them like a mammoth order, 642kg of food to be packed onto pallets. Certainly bigger than their normal grocery shop. Some of the food was in the ambient space in the warehouse and some in the walk in fridge. Sevan wasn't dressed for fridge work as he had his running shorts and GoodGym t-shirt on - so it was pretty chilly in there 🥶 - while Kash had opted for leggings, which in hindsight was way more sensible.

Picking started and they stacked food onto their pallet, ticking it off the giant shopping list as they went. After a while Kash noticed that the more experienced volunteers were packing everything into crates. Lesson learned, they repacked the small stuff and continued to load their 2 pallets high with food. Once the 2 pallets were ready, they immediately went into a van for the next delivery round.

With their list completed, it was time to grab some lunch from the canteen. It was surprisingly good, with a choice of fried chicken, rice and dhal. Sevan managed to resist the urge to take the 2 litre bottle of Irn Bru that was in the volunteers' fridge.

After lunch there was 30 minutes remaining of the task, so Kash and Sevan were asked to help a group of volunteers sort a new delivery into what was imminently expiring and what had a longer shelf life. The near expiring stock turned out to be mostly ready meals and salad, some of it quite fancy stuff that they would have loved to try out at home.

With the second part of the task wrapped up, it was time to head onwards to the last good deed of the day...

Lucky enough to be the Area Activator for Tower Hamlets. Personal trainer. Seriously sweet tooth.
