Report written by Barnet runner
Eleven excellent GoodGymmers ran to lovely Long Lane Pasture in Barnet to ~fix~ it up for the summer.
Meeting at the Phoenix, we were joined by runners who had completed missions over the weekend and some of the brilliant GG cheer squad from Sunday's London Marathon. Kudos in particular to Rupesh, who took a particularly direct approach to dismantling some furniture in a mission on Friday, and Hazel who cheered marathon runners for 6 hours on Sunday (out lasting me by some distance). Well done guys.
We set off with Hazel back marking. Reaching the Pasture, it turned out we were a bit quick for the other volunteers so we had our workout first. A few quick drills, a sprint uphill in the alley, then Hazel led a group for a 1.4km loop around the Pasture. Everyone did it in about 7.55 so we have a benchmark to beat next time!
When we were done the other volunteers appeared and we got to work. We needed to attack a large patch of brambles and clear the whole thing out. It was dense and knotted but that doesn't put us off. With gloves and (some very ~sharp~) clippers we lined up and got to work. You can hopefully see the progress in the picture, but needless to say we made brilliant progress and demolished the brambles in about half an hour. The task leaders were delighted with our efforts and are already thinking what we can help with next.
We set off back to base for biscuits and stretches. See you next week for more gardening guys!
This week's Barnet Biscuit: double chocolate cookies.
