OK, so we didn't really go anywhere, with many essential tasks having been carried out in our communities over lockdown, but today's rule change heralded the return of two of our most favoured gardening tasks in Tower Hamlet, one of which was at the lovely Hollybush gardens.

While we've been away, great transformations have been afoot and we were amazed to find two new paved areas where some old bushes and tree stumps used to be, in the estate's family area. It looked great and so much cleaner and more spacious - Margaret and Michael have clearly been hard at work over past months and with brilliant results.

Today's task: to weed 'up to the grass line' around the edge of the lawn. Margaret and Michael had invested in shiny new reusable weed bins for us (to save on bin bags) which we quickly filled, clearing the area ready for new grass seed to be sown, ready to welcome families back this spring.

A really lovely evening applying our green fingers once again and catching up in the early eve sunshine ☀️

Hollybush Estate
Hollybush's ‘Rocky’ Gardens and ‘Strawberry Fields’ orchard are now an established nature reserve with 79 growing spaces

The Hollybush and Teesdale Estate Urban Growers project began in April 2009 in Rocky Park – a disused children’s play area. Now enjoyed by the whole community, the area includes seats and communal herb beds for all to use.
