Camden

Mission

Don't mask, don't get!

1 GoodGymer made their way to help an isolated older person in Camden.

Today's task for my run-walk was to pick up meds for Mr J from Boot's in St Pancras station. Mr J is self-isolating due to his health and is unable to get out and about himself. Although I've been doing my best to keep my distance from others when out on a run, trying to avoid busy areas and swerving across the street when I approach another person, I've been feeling increasingly uncomfortable about all the air I expel when I'm running so I was trying out my new home-made mask today. Granted, it won't completely stop all of the particles in my breath from dispersing into the atmosphere but it catches at least some of them. It's also pretty stylish if I do say so myself!

Feeling pleased with myself at having judged the timing of my run-walk from home to be 30 minutes exactly (unlike previous missions where I'd arrived waaaay too early), I headed into the station, appreciating the coolness of the interior after the heat and dustiness of Pancras Road. The station was deserted except for one forlorn-looking traveller searching for M and S - which unfortunately was shut. Apart from Boot's, all the shops were closed and there was a sense of their being frozen in time, their window displays still festooned with pre-lockdown Easter decorations of eggs, chicks and bunnies.

When I got to Boot's, the prescription was ready and waiting for me and I was in and out in less than 5 minutes. It was then a short stroll down to Mr J's flat in Bloomsbury, where I dropped off the bag on his doormat. Mr J opened the door a crack to thank me and was reassured to see I'd retreated a flight of stairs down to keep my distance from him - he entreated me to stay back as he said he was showing symptoms of coronavirus. After expressing my regrets and wishing him a speedy recovery, I headed out into the sunshine and wended my way home, stopping to take a photo of some drawings in the street which made me smile.
