Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Sam Lefevre (he/him)
After a torrential downpour to start the day, five GoodGymers met in the blissful sunset outside St. Faith's Community Centre near North Dulwich station.
GROAD (Get Rid Of And Donate) needed our help to sort and pack bags for the homeless, which they give out on the Strand on Tuesday evenings.
When we arrived there were items on the table that were sorted out by type of clothing. All we needed to do was pack suitcases with the essentials - two to three trousers, a couple of shirts and sweaters, a towel, a few socks and toiletries. We kept the shoes, blankets and coats separate as GROAD had figure out a system for when they distribute the donated clothes on a Tuesday evening. It's best to leave those items separate.
We were all busy bees in charge of our section and packing our own suitcases, yet the teamwork was there as we assembled a pile of more than a dozen suitcases. By the end of the session, the piled up bags were looking like a baggage claim at an airport. Yet, these suitcases hadn't arrived from somewhere sunny, but will head to somewhere useful.
Thank you Emily, Frances, Sarah and Adam for coming out tonight to assist GROAD with this task.
Hope to see everyone soon!
Donโt let your rejected items end up abandoned on streets or in landfills, where they can sit disintegrating and damaging our environment. Reach out to Get Rid Of and Donate, arrange a free collection for your unwanted goods and help us be there for everyone who needs us.
